As we await Marvel Studios' heavily anticipated crossover movie Avengers: Doomsday, there are understandably a lot of rumors about potential Marvel Cinematic Universe comebacks and returns. That hasn't stopped fans from looking ahead to the release of its 2027 sequel either, as Avengers: Secret Wars isn't too far away. And, well, anything is possible in the MCU.
It's true! Even though Avengers: Doomsday hasn’t been released yet, you can expect news and rumors to come out involving the other Avengers movie, Secret Wars. Speaking of which, during a recent Q&A with fans, veteran industry insider Alex Perez was asked about the X-Men's upcoming return in Avengers: Doomsday - more specifically whether Marvel's Mightiest Mutants will appear in more than just that movie. The scooper responded, saying: “Some will return for Avengers: Secret Wars.”
More X-Men will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars
If you’ve been keeping up with the news surrounding the next two Avengers movies, you know that many of the X-Men are scheduled to appear. Among the names announced during Marvel Studios' internet-breaking livestream (which ran for five hours) are Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, James Marsden's Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer's Beast, Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto and Sir Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier. As great as that news is, there’s no guarantee that the characters mentioned will return for the next film. They could be killed, erased during the incursion, or eaten by Alioth (which may be worse than death).

We can also likely expect actors who played X-Men, who haven’t been mentioned - or say that they haven’t been asked to return - to appear. For a while, James Marsden said that he wasn’t part of Marvel Studios’ plans. Then it was officially confirmed that he’s in Doomsday. It would make sense that more things like this will happen - meaning that we could see more X-Men stars appear in one or both of the two Avengers movies.
Meanwhile, Halle Berry has stated that no one has contacted her about returning to play Storm. While that’s what she’s saying, this writer believes that there will be a Storm appearing in one of the next Avengers projects. The question now is whether it’s Halle Berry or Alexandra Shipp reprising their role. Considering the newer actors who appeared in the Fox prequel X-Men movies haven’t been mentioned, we can assume it will likely be the former. However, it would be good to see what Alexandra Shipp can do as Storm with a new (and maybe better) creative team behind her. I also wouldn't mind seeing Olivia Munn come back as Psylocke.

As I mentioned earlier in this article, Doomsday will be released before Secret Wars. But they aren't the only upcoming Marvel Studios projects. Among them are Disney Plus' Wonder Man and Vision Quest. Plus, we can't forget Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which may debut a different Punisher. The latter proves that anything can happen in the future.
The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe shows or films could lead to more former X-Men actors being cast for one of the next Avengers projects. For instance, Wonder Man and Beast were best friends in the comics. Is this where we see Hank McCoy again, and will their relationship be the same in the MCU? Is there a connection to Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants in Vision Quest? We don't know, but when the news comes out, Bam Smack Pow will report it.
