Will there be another Spider-Man movie? Here's what you need to know about Spider-Man 5

It took nearly five years for the wall-crawler to swing back onto the big screen after he saved the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fortunately, the wait was worth it, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released to a positive reception and has been breaking box-office records left and right. The Marvel Cinematic Universe played the right card by carefully developing the movie over time and allowing it to become the juggernaut it currently is. That being said, we could definitely do with another Spider-Man movie in less than half a decade, but will that actually happen?

After the credits roll on Brand New Day, audiences will be treated to a message that says "Spider-Man will return." However, this could be a reference to his participation in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, and not an outright confirmation that Spider-Man 5 is bound to happen. To add to this mystery, neither Sony nor Marvel has revealed that the wall-crawler will get another solo movie. However, we did our best Spider-Man Noir impression and compiled enough evidence to suggest Spidey's tale isn't over just yet, so here's everything you need to know:

Destin Daniel Cretton seemingly revealed that another Spider-Man movie is on its way, and he is interested in directing it

During an interview with Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton was asked what the film's ending truly means and whether there is someone who remembers Peter Parker. While answering the question, the acclaimed director seemingly revealed that there will, indeed, be another Spider-Man movie:

"I have seen the theories, and I love the theories. I think they're so cool, and I don't want to stop that conversation by putting my opinion in the middle of it. Knowing there will be another movie, that conversation will continue in the writers' room as we figure out — if we figure out — what we're going to do next."

Furthermore, during the same interview, Cretton was asked whether he'd be interested in returning for Spider-Man 5, to which he replied with a simple and concise "sure." Better yet, he hasn't been the only one to tease that there will be another chapter in the wall-crawler's franchise.

Tom Holland wrote a message to the crew of Spider-Man: Brand New Day that suggests Spider-Man 5 is a reality

If we were going to get an accidental confirmation that Spider-Man 5 is a reality, it would come from the man known to spoil what's bound to happen next: Tom Holland. Granted, his latest statement wasn't as spoilery as others he has pulled off in the past, but he did suggest that the web-slinger's journey is far from over.

After filming wrapped on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland wrote a letter to the film's cast and crew in which he said he would see them "next time." Granted, there's a chance this could be a reference to a future Avengers movie... but when we consider Destin Daniel Cretton ultimately turned down the opportunity to direct Avengers: Doomsday, it's all the more likely that he's talking about Spider-Man 5.

Granted, this is far from a confirmation that the film will actually see the light of day, but both Holland and Cretton have implied it is actually happening. So, what about the president of Marvel Studios?

Kevin Feige revealed that there are plans for Spider-Man 5, and Amy Pascal has stated they want Tom Holland to play the character again

Talking with Variety, Kevin Feige was asked whether there are plans to make another Spider-Man movie with Holland in the lead, to which he responded:

"There are always plans. But right now, he's going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve."

The main takeaway from all of these statements is that Sony and Marvel creatives are very optimistic about Spider-Man 5. This sentiment was echoed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day producer Amy Pascal, who stated during an interview with Collider that she hopes Holland keeps being "Spider-Man forever."

Tom Holland revealed there's a "whole plan" for him to pass the Spider-Man baton

For as much as we'd like him to, Tom Holland can't portray Spider-Man on the big screen forever. As such, the British actor revealed that there are already plans set in stone about how he will pass the Spider-Man baton to someone else, like Miles Morales:

"There's a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. It's laid out. It's going to change, for sure. But I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it's really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it. But that is the thing I want to do most in this character, for sure."

Admittedly, this statement isn't strictly related to Spider-Man 5. However, it's hard to imagine a world in which Spidey's farewell happens in any project other than a Spider-Man movie, especially if a different iteration of the web-slinger is set to take his place afterward. As such, it isn't far-fetched to assume that—when the day comes—we'll see Miles Morales' introduction and Peter Parker's farewell in a solo Spider-Man movie. Whether that happens in Spider-Man 5 or in another future installment remains to be seen, but all signs suggest the hero's saga will be expanded even further.

Tom Holland said the character has a "bright" future, even if a little unclear

Just like Spider-Man: Brand New Day ended on a high note, let's try to do the same here. During an interview with Serieously, Holland stated that the plans for Spider-Man 5 are a little unclear at the moment, but things are looking hopeful:

"What is on the cards is a little unclear right now, but I'm sure that, whatever happens with Spider-Man, it'll be very bright and lovely."

Of course, the biggest piece of evidence that another Spider-Man film is set to come our way is Brand New Day's astonishing box-office run. The film grossed $1 billion worldwide during its first week alone and is on track to surpass $2 billion during its second week. Since audiences are in love with this particular iteration of the wall-crawler, it is a no-brainer for Marvel and Sony to continue his saga.

So, by all means, we should definitely get a Spider-Man 5 in the future (but let's hope a confirmation comes our way sooner rather than later).
