Marvel to bring back two pivotal MCU characters before Avengers: Doomsday

You don't have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday to see some massive MCU comebacks.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. We are, of course, talking about the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday, which looks to bring the vast majority of the storylines explored throughout the franchise's current saga to a close - or at least set them up for that close in 2027's sequel Avengers: Secret Wars.

Before we get to that, however, there will be another upcoming MCU project that brings us back to the beloved shared universe of superheroes in the very near future. That project is none other than VisionQuest, which will focus on Paul Bettany's Vision, who is still reeling from his weaponized resurrection in WandaVision and is now in hiding in Scotland to avoid any other run-ins with SWORD.

While Marvel has confirmed that he will be running into some familiar faces in his head, the former Avenger will reportedly come across two other major MCU staples.

Wiccan and Agatha Harkness expected to return in VisionQuest

According to multiple reports, Joe Locke and Kathryn Hahn are expected to appear in VisionQuest, reprising their respective roles of Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, and Agatha Harkness. As of this moment, it's unclear as to how significant their roles would be, but multiple of the industry's more reliable insiders have informed fans to be keep a lookout for the bewitching pair at some point throughout VisionQuest's eight-episode run.

If we're being honest, it's not too surprising to learn this. VisionQuest is the third installment in the WandaVision Trilogy, coming after WandaVision itself and Agatha All Along. Hahn has appeared as Agatha in both installments, obviously leading the second one. Should she appear in VisionQuest too, she would make history as the trilogy's only actor to appear in all three installments. And it was her role in Agatha All Along that might have set this potential return in motion - the same goes for Billy.

The first spinoff concluded with Billy and Agatha - the latter of whom had now become a ghost after battling Death - setting out on a mission to find the former's twin brother Tommy Maximoff. It turns out that both of Wanda and Vision's children survived the Hex that the Scarlet Witch magically created - and then pulled down - in Westview, with Billy's magical abilities allowing him to jump into another body (William Kaplan, who had just died). Meanwhile, with Agatha's help, he was successfully able to locate the soul of his brother, placing his soul into another body, too.

We will meet Tommy in VisionQuest, where he will be portrayed by Ruaridh Mollica. Known as Thomas Shepard, the young man will seemingly look to connect with Vision - who is still attempting to figure himself out after the Westview incident. The fictional version of Vision that Wanda had created in her grief after losing Vision during the events of Avengers: Infinity War was able to restore his predecessor's memories. The only problem is that the rebuilt synthezoid doesn't have the emotions attached to them. And that's where VisionQuest comes in.

Vision will spend much of his own spinoff series in his own head, reconnecting with the various Tony Stark AIs that eventually led to his own creation. Yes, that includes Ultron, with James Spader set to reprise his role as a human avatar for the Avengers: Age of Ultron villain. From the looks of the first trailer, he's looking to add a splash of color back to his life as the White Vision, but is he truly capable of feeling emotions without the Mind Stone? That's what VisionQuest looks to answer, and the key to answering that question might just be in his own children - who are very, very real.

If Vision and Tommy do reunite, it is only fitting that Agatha and Billy eventually join the party too. The supernatural pair set out to find Tommy in the closing moments of Agatha All Along, so it would make sense for the next time we see them to be achieving that objective. Coming across Vision too might just be the icing on that cake.

Rumor has it that Marvel Studios is eventually planning on bringing back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff herself, as the Scarlet Witch has been presumed dead now since the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But Agatha All Along cast doubt on whether Wanda really is gone, meaning that the door is still very much open. And with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, it's entirely possible that VisionQuest could be setting the stage for the Maximoff family's future involvement in one - or both - of those movies, as well as an eventual reunion with their mother.

We know that Billy and Tommy will be sticking around as members of the Young Avengers, a.k.a. Champions, whenever that team comes to fruition. But in the meantime, seeing Wiccan and Speed reunite on-screen - along with their father Vision - is certainly going to make VisionQuest an emotional, fulfilling watch.

VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus on October 14, 2026.
