The Multiverse Saga is coming to its inevitable end. For the last seven years, audiences have witnessed the debut of more and more Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, all in anticipation of the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. So, now that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has come and gone, there is only one project that's standing between us and watching Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble once more on the big screen, and that is VisionQuest.
The upcoming Disney+ show has been surrounded by a lot of secrecy since its announcement back in 2022. It wasn't until D23 2026 that Marvel finally decided to give us a glimpse behind the curtain and release the first VisionQuest trailer for everyone to see. Even then, the superhero giant is keeping its cards close to its chest, and there could be a good reason for all the mystery.
VisionQuest will act as the culmination of the WandaVision trilogy, which opens the door to major MCU returns. Furthermore, its release window suggests that it will play a major part in setting up the events of Avengers: Doomsday before the highly anticipated crossover hits theaters. There could be more than meets the eye when it comes to VisionQuest, and a new report doubles down on this idea.
VisionQuest will reportedly set up the events of Champions
At this point, it is an open secret that the Champions team will come together at the end of the Multiverse Saga. After all, the post-credits scene of The Marvels showcased Ms. Marvel recruiting Kate Bishop to form a new group of heroes, much like Nick Fury did with Tony Stark in Iron Man's post-credits scene. Furthermore, leaked Avengers: Doomsday concept art revealed the team's lineup, while reports indicate the Champions and a handful of other MCU heroes will be the protagonists of Avengers: Secret Wars. The only question remaining was: When will we see them start to come together? Well, it seems the answer is during the events of VisionQuest.
According to reliable insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), "VisionQuest is going to be a very important project to look forward to if you want a peek at what Marvel has planned for Champions." The report also hinted that we'll see Billy Maximoff (AKA Wiccan) appear in the upcoming Disney+ series, and that his relationship with his father, Vision, will be explored in more depth.
Agatha All Along—the second installment in the WandaVision trilogy—ended with Wiccan embarking on a mission to find his missing brother, Tommy Maximoff. Furthermore, we know that Tommy will have a major role to play in VisionQuest, as revealed by the show's first trailer. With that in mind, it isn't far-fetched to assume that the superpowered sibling reunion will take place this October, which is a key detail because both brothers are part of the Champions lineup.
If Vision, Billy, and Tommy truly reunite during the events of VisionQuest, then the only missing link would be Wanda Maximoff. As such, it stands to reason that the three could set out to find where the Scarlet Witch truly is, paving the way for this storyline to unfold during the events of Avengers: Doomsday, where more members of the Champions team could also join the search.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel revealed that Doctor Doom will have a coven of "Latverian Witches" and sorcerers by his side. These characters wear metal masks just like their leader, so their identities remain a secret for the time being. However, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating that they could be iconic Marvel characters in disguise, such as Sylvie, Doctor Strange, and Wanda Maximoff.
If Wiccan, Tommy, and the rest of the Champions are searching for the Scarlet Witch and finally find her by Doom's side, it would mimic the events of the Avengers: The Children's Crusade comic book series. With a precedent like this in the source material, it seems even more likely that such a storyline will come to life on the big screen, and VisionQuest would be instrumental in making it happen.
Doomsday is nearly here, and there is a reason why VisionQuest will be released a few months prior. Fortunately, we don't have to wait long to see what surprises Marvel has in store for us.
