The ground-breaking WandaVision trilogy is coming to a close this fall when VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus. It's no understatement to say that the spinoff series has been in the works for years, with Paul Bettany set to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe's beloved synthezoid back for a standalone adventure that will wrap up the story set forth by 2021's WandaVision and continued through previous spinoff Agatha All Along.
It's set to be the last new live-action Marvel series for quite some time (as the studio presses pause on developing new Disney Plus shows for now) and the anticipation is high. Look no further than the response to the first trailer, which was released online after being showcased to audiences in attendance at D23. The conclusion to this trilogy looks like it will be worth the wait.
There are so many reasons as to why, but the most important comes from the fact that it's finally going to give Marvel fans the one thing they have been asking for.
VisionQuest sets the stage for a Maximoff family reunion
One of the biggest plots of the MCU's Multiverse Saga has been that of the Maximoff family. Wanda Maximoff and Vision's love story took center stage in the critically-acclaimed WandaVision - which just so happened to be the first title of the whole saga - as the Scarlet Witch created herself a magical family out of grief, love, and the remnants of the Mind Stone. Although she had to undo that spell when all was said and done in Westview, she would set the MCU on a course for which it would never be the same.
Although Vision, as well as the pair's sons Tommy and Billy Maximoff were created via magic (and therefore ceased to exist when the Hex was taken down), it was only the beginning of their stories. Wanda's magical Vision was able to restore the memories of the original Vision, who had been brought back by SWORD as a weapon. And even though their "fictional" sons disappeared when the Hex ended, magic found a way to ensure that they lived on.

Look no further than the VisionQuest trailer, which sees Vision discover that his sons - or at least one of them - are very real. Yes, the trailer introduces us to Ruaridh Mollica's Tommy Shepard - who we all know is actually, really Tommy Maximoff. From the brief glimpses of him in the trailer, it appears that the show will address this reveal pretty early on - contrary to Agatha All Along's approach of reintroducing Billy as the mysterious "Teen" and making viewers guess his true identity for weeks.
It was Billy, who was responsible for the re-emergence of his brother, too. Having been magically resurrected in the body of William Kaplan, Billy clearly shares his mother's supernatural, limitless powers. With the help of Agatha Harkness, he was able to locate Tommy's soul and place it in a new body too. And that has set the stage for the family reunion in VisionQuest.
A family reunion could finally lead to answers about the Scarlet Witch's fate
Although Vision doesn't have the heart and soul that his former self did, he does have those memories. So he's aware of his life with Wanda and the family that she created for his Westview doppelganger in WandaVision. With that in mind, he still has it within him to be inherently good; he doesn't want to be a weapon and he doesn't think that he's a hero anymore. But there is one role that he can play: Dad.

Throughout the Multiverse Saga, we have wondered about the location of Wanda Maximoff, the mystery surrounding Billy's true identity as Wiccan, and the status of Tommy. Vision has been the one we have talked about the least - and there's a good reason for that. We essentially knew that he was alive and well; just changed. It was okay that he would be taking time to himself to figure his new place in the world out before eventually returning to our screens. Well, that return is upon us and it could very well hold the key to all of the other questions we have been asking regarding this family drama.
Vision is about to meet his son for the first time, but he isn't completely aware that the other one is out there (and responsible for giving life to his brother again). With that in mind, VisionQuest's placement as the final chapter of the WandaVision Trilogy makes it perhaps the most pivotal of all, because it officially sets in motion the long-awaited reunion of the Maximoff Family - which may well lead to us getting answers about the Scarlet Witch's fate.
Wanda went off the rails in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to the loss of Vision and her kids before she tried to put things right by sacrificing herself. She's been presumed dead ever since, but Agatha All Along officially moved her fate back to "ambiguous" territory when the all-powerful, all-knowing Agatha Harkness couldn't fully confirm if she was dead or not. And, as a result of that, fans have been longing for answers in regards to her fate.

Elizabeth Olsen isn't currently expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday and VisionQuest might be able to shed some light as to why. Few people really believe that Wanda is dead, so setting the stage for a family reunion might finally set the MCU on course to bringing the character back - an outcome that fans have understandably felt has been far too long coming (Multiverse of Madness was released in 2022).
We know that Vision and Tommy are going to get to know each other in the upcoming series. But it's also worth bearing in mind which other WandaVision Trilogy faces we could see in the spinoff. Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness set out to find Tommy in the closing moments of Agatha All Along, so it would only be fitting if the pair ended up making a cameo appearance in the sequel series. After all, Joe Locke and Kathryn Hahn are rumored to return in the show. And if that truly does come to fruition, it would bring three quarters of the Maximoff family back together.
All that would left to do is to set out and find Wanda. And considering that there are a multitude of rumors suggesting that Tommy and Billy will be leading the charge in making that happen, it's pretty safe to say that VisionQuest will be the first chapter in pulling that off. After all this time, we can't wait for it to finally happen.
VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus on October 14, 2026.
