4 key characters missing from the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer

While Avengers: Doomsday is set to reunite many Marvel characters in a single movie, there are some key exceptions who didn't even appear in the trailer.

Few Marvel Cinematic Universe projects can generate as much excitement and anticipation as an Avengers movie. Unfortunately, there has been a drought of them in recent memory, as the last time Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled on the big screen was all the way back in 2019. On the bright side, the wait for another big crossover is coming to an end.

Avengers: Doomsday is just around the corner, and to celebrate the occasion, Marvel released the film's very first trailer during CinemaCon 2026. While the footage was exclusive to those in attendance, multiple descriptions have since surfaced, and we have a pretty good idea of what happens and who appears in it.

The official Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement revealed over 25 heroes and villains set to be involved in the upcoming MCU film. Unfortunately, fan favorites like Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff were left out, meaning they didn't appear in the first full trailer either. That being said, there are key characters who are confirmed to play a role in the upcoming crossover, and yet they weren't present in the footage. So, it's time to go over who they are.

1. Loki

There's been a lot of speculation regarding Loki's role in Avengers: Doomsday. After all, the last time we saw the God of Mischief, he was singlehandedly keeping the MCU together by holding all of its branched timelines with his bare hands. So what happens if he lets go? Will Doctor Doom pay him a visit? Could Loki cross paths with Thor once more? There are many burning questions whose answers still elude us, and unfortunately, the Avengers: Doomsday trailer didn't help us either.

Loki was notoriously missing in four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers released back in December 2025. Furthermore, he didn't appear in the footage shown at CinemaCon either. We still don't know how Loki will be dragged into the events of the upcoming crossover, or what role he will have. Chances are that Marvel will save his appearance until the release date, so even if multiple trailers end up coming our way, it's very unlikely that Loki will make an appearance in any of them.

2. Bob

Similar to Loki, there's a big question mark surrounding Bob's role in Avengers: Doomsday, especially given how powerful he can really be. Granted, there's always a chance that the Void is the one to show up to the party, causing even more problems for Earth's Mightiest Heroes. However, if Sentry is the one to fight Doom, he could easily get the upper hand... right?

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer showcased Doctor Doom stopping Thor's Stormbreaker with just two fingers. With that in mind, the supervillain could definitely put up a fight against Sentry, but what if all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes were to attack him at the same time, including Sentry?

One of the fun things about Bob is that he's unpredictable. We don't know whether he'll be in a better mental state once the multiverse starts to collapse and act as a force of good as a result, or if he'll instead prove to be yet another big obstacle to overcome. Unfortunately, the trailer didn't get us any closer to getting some answers.

3. Beast

The X-Men are bound to have a pivotal role in Avengers: Doomsday, and the trailer alone doubled down on that idea. Gambit, Mystique, Professor X, Cyclops, and Magneto all showed up in the footage, and yet, the same cannot be said about Beast.

Kelsey Grammer's Beast was among the first mutants as a whole to make an MCU appearance. Fans were surprised to witness his return in the post-credits scene of The Marvels three years ago, and since then, we've been eager to see where he shows up next. Surprisingly enough, Dr. Henry McCoy wasn't in the X-Men Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer either. As such, we don't know whether he'll get any redesign updates or whether Marvel will bring the character to life with practical makeup once more.

What is a little more apparent, however, is that he'll be instrumental in finding a solution to a potential incursion caused by Monica Rambeau's presence in his universe. Rumor has it that the X-Men's solution to these apocalyptic-level events will be to destroy the parallel universe clashing with theirs. That's why many reports indicate that the Avengers will fight the X-Men in the upcoming MCU movie, speaking of which...

4. Nightcrawler

Another mutant who is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, yet didn't appear in the official trailer, is Nightcrawler. At this point, it is confirmed that we'll see Earth's Mightiest Heroes fight the X-Men. After all, the footage shown at CinemaCon featured a scene of Gambit battling Shang-Chi and another of Yelena Belova going toe-to-toe with Mystique. That's why it was all the more surprising that attendees didn't get to see Nightcrawler in one of these sequences.

Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming revealed that his character will fight Pedro Pascal's Mr. Fantastic in Avengers: Doomsday. But despite the fact that Marvel's First Family did appear in the trailer, they never interacted with the X-Men in the footage. A slight tease of the two groups meeting, and even fighting against each other, would've been amazing.

It isn't far-fetched to assume that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer that Marvel eventually unveils to the world will be slightly different from the one shown at CinemaCon. With a bit of luck, we'll get to watch even more scenes and exciting moments. San Diego Comic-Con seems like the ideal place to give us a taste of what's to come, and we couldn't be any more excited.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
