We've all been asking, hoping, and waiting for the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer to be released online. Ever since Marvel Studios unveiled it back at CinemaCon, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been wondering when directors the Russo Brothers, Marvel Studios' own President Kevin Feige, or stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans might release it to the world.
That trailer featured a number of shocking moments, which have all made their way around the internet as MCU fans lost their collective minds at the possibility of seeing these events play out in the movie (or even the trailer itself!) when it arrives in theaters. Now, they are losing their minds again over a potential release date.
Russo Brothers tease fans with cryptic Avengers: Doomsday announcement
The Russo Brothers have been teasing Marvel fans all through this weekend with a series of Avengers: Doomsday posts on social media that have fans convinced that a trailer for the highly-anticipated movie is coming. It all started on Friday when the pair, full names Joe and Anthony Russo, took to Instagram to share an image of a green background. We use the word "background" very loosely because there is nothing else in the image, just a single shade of green. And although fans had no idea what it meant, they knew it was a reference to Avengers: Doomsday - or, well, more specifically the movie's villain.
Now, as of Sunday, the pair have posted another image, revealing the whole surprise was indeed the official logo of Latveria - and, therefore, the official image of Doctor Doom himself. Doom will serve as the movie's main villain and he will be portrayed by MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr., who makes history by appearing in his fifth Avengers movie while simultaneously doing so in a brand new role.
Check out his official logo below:
Attention-grabbing, right? You can rest assured that it has grabbed the attention of Marvel fans all over the world who are hoping that it's the beginning of the journey towards the movie's first full teaser trailer. That might be the case, as a separate post from SXSW Festival London, in which the Russo Brothers are indeed tagged, previewed another glimpse of the logo before its full unveiling by the directing duo. The significance of this? The pair are set to appear at the event this week, with fans hoping that this will lead to the trailer being released.
The question is: Would Marvel realistically release the trailer this week when it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that there will be a sneak peek / first look unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July? It has been confirmed that the studio will make its highly-anticipated return to Hall H this summer and you can rest assured that there will be some big reveals from that.
Aside from Spider-Man: Brand New Day (which is a co-production with Sony), Avengers: Doomsday is the only MCU movie that the studio could promote at SDCC. And considering it will be a larger-than-life event set to kick off the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, it's pretty safe to say that Marvel will want to go big on it in San Diego.
This the grand stage in which Feige and the Russos revealed Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU return as the film's main villain, and they were so focused on production of that film last summer that the studio decided to skip SDCC for the first time in over a decade. Their grand return this summer will be all about Avengers: Doomsday.
In the meantime, we'll be eagerly awaiting the Russo Brothers' presence at SXSW Festival London to see what they have in store for Marvel fans.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
