Charlie Cox has enjoyed a long and successful career since he first burst onto the scene in 2007's Stardust. To most, however, his signature role will always be that of Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil in Netflix's Marvel franchise (which consisted of starring in three seasons of Daredevil itself). He's now back in action as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in Disney Plus revival Daredevil: Born Again. The beloved MCU series was a hit during its first season, and it will be back for its second this coming March.
However, Cox will be back on our screens sooner than that, as he is set to star in Merv - a delightful romcom alongside Zooey Deschanel that arrives on Prime Video this holiday season. The streamer has revealed the first look at it and, well, it's adorable.
Watch the trailer below:
Merv focuses on a dog, named Merv, who becomes depressed after his human parents Russ and Anna (Cox and Deschanel's characters) break up. The estranged couple co-parent him but, despite their best efforts to restore his happiness, they are unable to get Merv back to the life-loving dog that he used to be. When an adventure away for Russ and Merv gets a surprise guest appearance from Anna, Russ perks up and it raises the question of whether the two of them belong together. I'm not crying, you're crying!
Needless to say, the trailer has already taken the world by storm, amassing over 5 million viewers in just two days. You can bet that fans of Daredevil and Deschanel's New Girl - as well as all the other incredible works that they delivered over the years - will be ready to watch this one on December 10 when it premieres on the Prime Video streaming service.
Charlie Cox could also have multiple Marvel returns next year
After Merv arrives on Prime Video, the next time that we see Charlie Cox on our screens is in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. That will arrive on Disney Plus in March 2026, as Matt Murdock looks to battle his old enemy the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, by putting together a team of heroes who will stand up to his corrupt leadership as mayor.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the second season as the first showed real potential. Although there were clear signs of the creative reboot that it underwent midway through filming, it ultimately delivered on its promise to serve as a worthy successor to Netflix's Daredevil and even set the stage for an even stronger second season. With Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones, and Deborah Ann Woll back in a series regular capacity as Karen Page, all the signs are pointing towards the sophomore installment being even more awesome than the first.

That being said, Cox is rumored to appear in more than one MCU project next year - and honestly, there are quite a few that he could realistically show up in. For starters, there will be a Born Again spinoff focusing solely on The Punisher - which brings back the Marvel Studios Disney Plus Special Presentation format. As Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle and Cox's Matt Murdock are unlikely allies - and even recently reunited in Daredevil: Born Again - there is a real chance that we could see the Devil of Hell's Kitchen and The Punisher cross paths again here. It wouldn't be more than a cameo if it were to happen, but we couldn't rule this potential crossover out of the equation.
There's also Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in theaters on July 31. For years, MCU fans have wanted to see Daredevil and Spider-Man share the screen together, bringing one of Marvel's most popular team-ups to life. We did get a tease of it in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home when Cox made his official MCU debut as Matt Murdock (and his first since the Netflix show had been cancelled), who served as Peter Parker's lawyer, but the two never crossed paths in a superhero capacity.
Cox has denied that he will appear in Spider-Man, also ruling out an appearance in a third rumored MCU movie too. That one is, of course, Avengers: Doomsday, which will begin to wrap up the franchise's Multiverse Saga arc, showcasing many different heroes across the Multiverse Saga, the MCU as a whole, and the larger Marvel multiverse of movies that existed even before the MCU (we see you, X-Men!). Naturally, as the Multiverse Saga is what officially made the Marvel Netflix shows canon to the franchise, fans are hoping to at least see an appearance from Daredevil. As the studio wants to keep the Disney Plus shows' storylines more separate from the wider MCU, it likely wouldn't be any kind of major involvement, but still a cameo would go a long way!
Regardless of whether Cox does appear in any live-action Marvel projects outside of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, he is set to reprise his role as the voice of Daredevil in the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which premieres in Fall 2026. And honestly, the more Matt Murdock, the better!
Merv arrives on Prime Video on December 10, 2025, and Daredevil: Born Again season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on March 4, 2026.
