Marvel star rules out Avengers: Doomsday appearance: 'I'm not involved in that'

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be the biggest MCU crossover to date, but that doesn't mean every single hero will be there, as revealed by a Marvel veteran.

Before the premiere of Avengers: Endgame, everyone hoped that the crossover would reunite every single hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (including those who were turned to dust). Fortunately, the Russo Brothers delivered on that promise and created one of the most ambitious superhero projects that still lives rent-free in our minds more than six years later. But now that it's nearly time for the next big chapter in the saga, we need to ask ourselves: How do you craft a sequel to such a beloved movie as Endgame? By going bigger, of course.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to feature more beloved characters than ever before, as revealed by the casting announcement. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean every single MCU hero will make it in time to fight the ruler of Latveria. Moon Knight is rumored to be skipping on the adventure altogether, while reports have suggested even Spider-Man might not be able to help Earth's Mightiest Heroes. To make matters worse, the list of absentees keeps growing and growing as a beloved Marvel veteran confirmed he won't appear in the movie either.

Charlie Cox confirms Daredevil won't be in Avengers: Doomsday

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Cox confirmed that he won't reprise his role as Daredevil in Avengers: Doomsday. While the Man Without Fear was originally isolated from the rest of the MCU when Netflix was in charge of producing his stand-alone series, that has all changed in recent years. Daredevil: Born Again further cemented this idea by including nods and references to other characters such as Spider-Man. While fans hoped that this change would mean Matt Murdock would finally appear in a big crossover movie, Charlie's comments indicate we'll have to keep waiting:

"Not me. I'm excited to see it but I'm not involved in that"

While the MCU is a big interconnected machine, there's always a discussion to be had about the involvement of the street-level heroes in big multiversal crossovers. On the one hand, Daredevil is pretty busy dealing with the Kingpin's devilish reign over New York City, which means his plate is already full. Besides, his character works best during the smaller-scoped, grounded stories. However, the collapse of the multiverse is a problem that affects everyone, which is why fans expected him to join Earth's Mightiest Heroes in some capacity.

It's also important to remember that the fact that Daredevil doesn't appear in Doomsday does not mean he'll skip Secret Wars as well. After all, Avengers: Infinity War shone the spotlight on a handful of heroes, while Avengers: Endgame gave different characters a protagonistic role. A two or three-hour movie isn't enough for every MCU character to have its own moment, so that's why we'll have two of them so close together. Maybe the best is being saved for last, and Daredevil can get his moment to shine in Avengers: Secret Wars.

On the bright side, Charlie Cox also had some great news to share. When asked if fans can "expect any fun cameos" on the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, he answered with a "yeah" but didn't elaborate any further. At this point, it's very well known that Matt realized he'll need an army to fight the Kingpin of crime during the finale of the first season. That has led to the speculation that The Defenders could make a comeback, while a hidden easter egg also indicated Spider-Man could be involved in some capacity.

Even if Daredevil misses out on the events of Avengers: Doomsday, he'll still have the spotlight to his own in 2026 thanks to the second season of Born Again. Better yet: Audiences can expect him to lead a team of his own in a street-level crossover that might very well be a breath of fresh air amidst all the multiversal madness. Hopefully, it all works out great in the end.

... Still, we all want to see Daredevil in an Avengers movie so please, Marvel, make it happen.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
