Is Billy Maximoff in VisionQuest? It's complicated

VisionQuest continues the WandaVision story, but will Agatha All Along's Joe Locke make a cameo appearance? The evidence holds the key to answering that question.

Marvel has reminded audiences of its real potential when it comes to television with VisionQuest. The third and final installment of MCU's WandaVision Trilogy - which has very much become the crown jewel of the studio's Multiverse Saga - has found itself the subject of a lot of positive reviews over the course of the past week, as audiences praise the spinoff for a multitude of things that both previous series WandaVision and Agatha All Along also nailed, bringing a strong close to this long-running story.

It's the positive news that Marvel Studios needed ahead of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and the show's very existence is a reminder of how good this franchise is at long-form storytelling when it puts its mind to it. And that brings us to one of the biggest questions that fans have been asking about VisionQuest, which essentially revolves around just how connected to previous titles it is.

With the Paul Bettany-led sequel series built upon Vision's relationship with his recently-reincarnated son Tommy Maximoff (Ruaridh Mollica) at the center of it, there is a lot of intrigue as to whether Tommy's magical brother, Billy, would appear in it too. Also known as Wiccan, Billy was at the center of Agatha All Along and, with VisionQuest being the next installment of that series, does actor Joe Locke appear in it?

Billy is expected to return to VisionQuest (even if it's not fully official yet)

The short answer is that, yes, Joe Locke is expected to reprise his role as Billy Maximoff in VisionQuest, but the truth of the matter is that it hasn't been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios just yet. It was put together by fans who spotted Billy's hand in a recent teaser trailer for the show before star Ruaridh Mollica seemingly confirmed the rumors when discussing how great it was to film with Locke - who he also worked with on the play Clarkston.

Locke's MCU return was actually expected to take place in VisionQuest for a long time, as a number of insiders reported that both he and his Agatha All Along co-star Kathryn Hahn (who plays Agatha Harkness herself) would cameo in the series, continuing on from the ending of their show - in which the pair set out to find Tommy. Subsequent reports have revealed that Hahn's cameo was either cut or never filmed as it sounds like Billy will appear without his spiritual guide by his side this time.

As VisionQuest is the third and final chapter in the WandaVision Trilogy, it would have felt a bit disappointing if Billy didn't return, as it was his role in Agatha All Along that really bridged WandaVision and VisionQuest together. While younger versions of he and Tommy appeared in WandaVision itself (as fictional, magical parts of Wanda Maximoff's Hex in Westview), his magic allowed himself to survive said Hex's demise - as he jumped into the body of the recently-deceased William Kaplan.

With Agatha Harkness' help, Billy was then able to place the soul of Tommy into the body of the recently-deceased Thomas Shepard, setting the stage for Tommy's arrival in VisionQuest. He and Agatha then set out in the closing moments of Agatha All Along to find Tommy - something that it now seems Billy will do before the credits roll on the VisionQuest finale.

Marvel accidentally confirmed this in a recent VisionQuest trailer that features a scene in which Vision himself is being held down by two magical hands. One hand is likely Tommy's while the other features Billy's signature black nail polish (and just so happens to be exhibiting a blue blast of magic like Wiccan's magic). And that very much suggests that Vision will cross paths with both of his sons at some point throughout the spinoff.

Moreover, Mollica appeared to confirm the rumors that Billy will return in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, telling the outlet that "it was amazing" to shoot with Joe Locke, and that the pair "actually shot our MCU stuff before the play [Clarkston]". Unless both brothers have unexpected cameos in Avengers: Doomsday, it's highly likely that he was referring to VisionQuest.

So, there you have it: It appears as though Wiccan and Speed will indeed reunite in VisionQuest (potentially setting up a storyline in which the twins and their father set out to find the Scarlet Witch herself Wanda Maximoff) but, from an official standpoint, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm if we will see it on-screen.
