It's been a long time coming but Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated 2026 - 2027 slate is upon us. We just enjoyed the masterpiece that was Spider-Man: Brand New Day and we have Avengers: Doomsday to look forward to at the end of the year, setting the stage for Daredevil: Born Again season 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars to thrill us next year.
Before that, however, we have VisionQuest. The highly-anticipated Disney Plus series is the sequel to both WandaVision and Agatha All Along, with Paul Bettany and James Spader reprising their legendary Marvel Cinematic Universe roles as Vision and Ultron in what looks to be an incredibly intriguing conclusion to that beloved trilogy. However, that show also promises to feature a history-making return from none other than Joe Locke's Wiccan.
Marvel's confirmation of Billy's return places Joe Locke in a unique category
Marvel Studios' most recent trailer for VisionQuest has confirmed the long-standing rumors that Joe Locke will reprise his role as Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, in the series. A short, single scene in the teaser sees Vision being held down by two different types of magic - one of which is colored blue and coming from a hand with black nail polish on the finger nails. Clearly, it's Bllly, who realized the depth of his magical powers in Agatha All Along; that magic was indeed blue and the character was known for his black, polished nails.
It's unclear if the spoiler was intentional or an accident, but fans quickly spotted it, thrilled that it appears to confirm the rumors that the Maximoff twins would reunite with each other (Ruaridh Mollica makes his debut in VisionQuest as the adult version of Tommy Maximoff, a.k.a. Speed) in the upcoming spinoff.
With appearances in Agatha All Along and now seemingly VisionQuest to his name, Locke in a rather unique category of being one of the only actors to appear in two live-action MCU shows on Disney Plus. That places him just behind two Daredevil stars who made three TV appearances thus far:
- Charlie Cox - 3 MCU TV shows (Daredevil: Born Again, Echo, She-Hulk)
- Vincent D'Onofrio - 3 MCU TV shows (Daredevil: Born Again, Echo, Hawkeye)
- Kathryn Hahn - 2 MCU TV shows (WandaVision, Agatha All Along)
- Vision - 2 MCU TV shows (WandaVision, VisionQuest)
- Joe Locke - 2 MCU TV shows (Agatha All Along, VisionQuest)
Now, there are some interesting notes here. If we include the 2010s Netflix Marvel shows (which weren't produced by Marvel Studios and were only canonized as part of the MCU recently), then Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio surge way ahead, along with various other stars from those shows. Furthermore, if Kathryn Hahn reprises her role as Agatha Harkness in VisionQuest, she would graduate to the even rarer class of those who have appeared in three MCU shows.
Hahn has been rumored to return as Ghost Agatha, as she and Billy headed out in search of Tommy in the series finale of Agatha All Along, so it would make complete sense if the two appeared together when Billy and Tommy do reunite. But recent reports have suggested that she won't appear in the show after all. It's unclear if that is actually true or not, so the quickest way to find that out is to watch the series regularly between now and November 11.

Locke could also graduate to that class in the near-future, as Marvel Studios has been reportedly working on a Young Avengers TV series for a very long time. Currently known as Champions, it is expected to feature a team of the MCU's youngest heroes, uniting the likes of Wiccan, Speed, Kate Bishop, Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, Cassie Lang, and more. It's been in development since 2021 at least but it has yet to come to fruition. With rumors that Vision could be involved in it too, Paul Bettany might also graduate to the three-show class, too, if it comes to fruition.
Locke made his MCU debut in Agatha All Along, playing the mysterious Teen, who accompanies Agatha Harkness and her coven of witches down the Witches' Road. Eventually, it is revealed that Teen is actually Billy Maximoff - the son of Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch. With Agatha's help, he managed to locate Tommy's soul and place him into the body of Tommy Shepard. And, with that, the two siblings will reunite for the first time as adults in VisionQuest - reuniting with Vision in the process.
As the world wonders whether Wanda Maximoff is still alive or dead, it seems as if her family is coming back together ahead of Avengers: Doomsday. It remains to be seen if any of the three will appear in that one or its 2027 sequels Avengers: Secret Wars, but it's clear that the Maximoffs are set to play a major role going forward. We can't wait to see Locke, Mollica, and Bettany on-screen together for the first time. Hopefully it will only be a matter of time until Hahn's Agatha Harkness and Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff join them.
VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus on October 14, 2026.
