Marvel Studios has finally done it. After six months of anticipation, the studio has released the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, very quickly sending the internet into a complete and utter meltdown. Despite feeling like it's late (fans have been asking since April), it's earlier than anticipated, as many of us expected it to arrive at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's juggernaut just launched its tickets - which are on sale now - so this first look accompanied that announcement.
Avengers: Doomsday is headlined by Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the MCU in the brand new role of villain Doctor Doom. That villain will face off against a star-studded roster of heroes, including Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, the Fantastic Four, Sam Wilson's Captain America, and even the X-Men. We saw those faces in the new trailer, but there were also some other things we noticed.

As exciting as the new footage revealed in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is, I still watched it with a sense of familiarity; as if I knew what was going to happen. That's because I was fully aware of what was going to happen, as this trailer matches the detailed footage descriptions and breakdowns of the one that was screened to audiences at CinemaCon back in April.
Shang-Chi vs. Gambit? Yelena vs Mystique? Thor vs. Doctor Doom? All of it leaked out after the CinemaCon trailer was shown to the audience in attendance (even though the footage itself never did) with these particular shots very quickly generating a lot of discussion among Marvel fans. Needless to say that they all exceeded expectations.
It's really quite ironic that Marvel closed the 4-6 month gap of waiting for the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer by releasing the one that started the feral fan demand for it. But hey, it was worth the wait.
Avengers Assemble
One thing that is strikingly clear about the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is the sense of desperation in Thor's voice. The God of Thunder has returned to Earth in a bid to unite his pals and rally them ahead of the battle for the Multiverse against Doctor Doom. And, well, he might have actually succeeded, as we see footage of the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and Sam Wilson's rebuilt Avengers all standing side-by-side. So differences have clearly been put aside.
When we last caught up with our MCU faves, the heroes were in chaos. The New Avengers had just been formed, Sam Wilson's Avengers weren't happy with them, and the Fantastic Four were on their way to Earth-616. The new trailer features the Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Benn Grimm's arrival, and the heroes are seemingly united as they welcome them.
Thor's speech may have united the heroes, but it seems as if there was already some common ground there to begin with. Perhaps the friction was resolved off-screen because of the Fantastic Four's arrival? Whatever the reason, it's clear that nothing brings the heroes of the MCU together quite like a larger-than-life villain like Doctor Doom.
No Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday (as expected)
If you were hoping to see Spider-Man in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, you were likely disappointed by his absence. The webslinger wasn't expected to be featured in the main bulk of the movie as Tom Holland's name was absent from the announced cast list in March 2025, so the fact that he didn't appear in the trailer isn't too surprising.
The wall-crawler will return to the MCU this summer in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That film is supposed to take place around the same time as the events of Avengers: Doomsday so that would explain why he isn't involved here. However, that doesn't entirely rule out an appearance.
Rumor has it that the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will set up Avengers: Doomsday - and Holland is expected to be a part of the main Avengers: Secret Wars cast in 2027 - so a surprise appearance in the film's closing moments wouldn't be too outside the realm of possibility.
First look at Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom
It's been talked about at such length prior to the release of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer that it is somewhat easy to forget that this was actually our first look at Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in action. We've all seen the posterized renders and the merchandise, which have given us confirmation that the villain will look mostly like his comic book counterpart, but we had yet to see him in action - or here him speak.
Downey Jr.'s haunting voice makes its presence felt in the beginning of the teaser and he then squares up against Thor later on in it. The Latverian ruler even manages to stop Stormbreaker from coming directly at him, holding back all the might of Thor.
There has been so much talk and discussion surrounding Doctor Doom's debut and it goes without saying that it has had the desired effect. The aura, intrigue, and fright that the villain already inspires is off the scale, once again providing the MCU with an Avengers-level threat.
Avengers vs. X-Men
This one might not sound all that surprising to you because it's pretty clear that there are multiple scenes in which the X-Men are fighting the Avengers, but it's so widespread that the question on all of our minds is: Why? Mystique going head-to-head with Yelena Belova doesn't seem all that head-scratching as the former loves a bit of chaos and spent much of her career as a villain anyway. But Gambit going up against Shang-Chi? That's an interesting one, for sure!
The X-Men's world has been ravaged; we see that from the opening moments in which Charles Xavier and Magneto share a moment at the burnt our relic of Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters and from Cyclops' emotional drop to the burnt out backdrop. Could it be from an incursion or Doctor Doom himself? Whatever the reason, the Avengers will show up soon afterwards.
It looks as if the Avengers might find their way to this world and cross paths with the X-Men - inveitably leading to a battle in which nobody is able to tell who is friend or foe. Our hopes that eventually they will get on the same page, allowing a larger-than-life team to ultimately do battle with Doctor Doom in the film's grand finale.
With the future of the multiverse - and the Multiverse Saga - at stake, the stakes themselves really couldn't be any higher.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
