With Avengers: Secret Wars about a year away, Marvel is still making some surprising casting choices. It was recently revealed that Secret Wars will star actor Noah Jupe, known for his roles in Hamnet and A Quiet Place, in a secret role.

Deadline first reported that Jupe would play a "key role" in Secret Wars. Since Marvel has a history of hiding major and surprise characters before releasing their films, it makes sense that Jupe's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being kept under wraps. However, his casting has already raised massive implications for his role in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Could Noah Jupe play in Franklin Richards?

Since Jupe is now 21 years old, fans have speculated that he will play a grown-up version of Franklin Richards, the superpowered son of Sue Storm and Reed Richards. While the character is about four years old in Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars may feature a massive time jump similar to Avengers: Endgame.

In Marvel Comics, after Doctor Doom reshaped the Multiverse and created Battleworld, the heroes only rose up to stop him eight years after he became "God Emperor Doom." In that time, Doom raised Franklin as his "son," alongside his mother, Sue, and his sister, Valeria Richards.

If Franklin does appear as a teenager or an adult in Secret Wars, he could be a major ally or obstacle in the fight against Doom. The comics depict Franklin with the ability to change reality and create entire universes. In the MCU, Galactus even considered Franklin worthy of inheriting his role as the Devourer of Worlds, cementing him as one of the most powerful figures in the franchise.

Given Franklin's godlike power in the comics, he could help recreate the Multiverse after Doom's defeat in Secret Wars. Since Jupe is supposed to play a "key role" in the film, what role could be more important than restoring all realities in the MCU?

Who else could Noah Jupe play in the MCU?

While it seems like Jupe could play Franklin Richards, fans have thought of other Marvel characters he could play. Some have theorized that he will play the Beyonder, the omnipotent entity who forced several heroes and villains to fight on the original Battleworld in the 1985 "Secret Wars" comic. However, this fancasting is based purely on Jupe's physical resemblance to the character, who has yet to appear in the MCU.

Other fans have predicted that Jupe will play a member of the new X-Men. Eric Diaz of Nerdist predicted he could play the subzero hero, Iceman. Since Sadie Sink, a former co-star of Jupe's, will reprise her role as Jean Grey in Secret Wars, it seems possible for the rest of the X-Men to appear alongside her before starring in their own film in 2028. If Jupe does play Franklin Richards, a character long considered a mutant in the comics, he could easily become a member of the X-Men.

Nerdist also suggested that Jupe could play Hulkling, a Kree/Skrull hybrid and a member of the Young Avengers. The MCU has set the stage for the Young Avengers to appear with characters like America Chavez, Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, and Billy and Tommy Maximoff. In the likely event that Doom defeats the Avengers in Doomsday, it would make sense for a younger generation to join the fight in Secret Wars.

While Jupe's character in Avengers: Secret Wars remains a mystery, the fact that he will play a big part in a movie set to feature several Marvel icons says a lot. As a result, his casting has built even more hype for one of the biggest movies in the MCU's history.

Avengers: Secret Wars premieres in theaters on December 17, 2027.
