Wolverine actor won't appear in Deadpool 3 after all; last-minute revelation
The third Deadpool movie promises to be the biggest film of the year. It's going to have a challenge in front of it due to Inside Out 2's recent success, but if there is any movie capable of tackling the Pixar phenomenon's billion-dollar dominance, it's this one. Deadpool and Wolverine is easily the most-anticipated film of 2024, and it holds that title for multiple reasons, specifically due to the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine; the actor reprises the role for the first time since 2017's Logan and this time, it's in the unstoppable Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But Jackman's Wolverine won't be the only one to cross paths with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, as the film is expected to feature multiple variants of Logan. We caught a glimpse of one in the very first trailer for the movie (which was released during the Super Bowl) and ever since, fans have been speculating that a certain actor would play that role as the Patch variant of Wolverine. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this will be the case.
Daniel Radcliffe isn't playing Patch Wolverine variant, according to reports
Those of you who were hoping to see Daniel Radcliffe appear in Deadpool and Wolverine as a variant of Wolverine himself might be a bit upset at this. IGN has confirmed that the Patch Wolverine who appeared in the trailer will not be played by him. It has since caught on around the internet, with fans beginning to react to the last-minute revelation with pretty mixed feelings.
The Harry Potter star has been rumored to appear in the movie for some time now, with most fans convinced that he would be playing that variation of the claw-wielding mutant. One of the reasons for that was the fact that multiple insiders and scoopers (including MyTimeToShineHello) claimed that the Patch variant would be played by a different actor.
This may not rule Radcliffe out from the movie entirely but any appearance is looking much less likely now. It does, however, seem to confirm that he won't be playing that particular variant, which is a pretty last-minute reveal considering how close to the movie's release we are. But hey, that's an indicator of what a great job Marvel Studios has done in protecting the film and its biggest secrets.
Part of the film's plot will entail Deadpool traversing the multiverse in search of different variants of Wolverine so that he can find the right one to help him save his world with. We know that the one he chooses will be the Hugh Jackman variation who dons the comic-accurate yellow suit, but that doesn't mean he won't come face-to-face with a number of other variants, too.
Another actor rumored to be portraying a Wolverine variant is Henry Cavill, who is expected to cameo as a version of Old Man Logan, donning the signature brown coat for the part, too. Among other rumored Logan cameos are Taron Egerton, as well as a different version of Wolverine wearing the character's signature brown and yellow suit (his other iconic look that made its debut on X-Men '97 recently), and one that will seemingly do battle with a Hulk variant.
Radcliffe, Egerton, and Cavill have all been popular fan-casting choices for the role of Wolverine in the MCU over the years, so it would be a pretty epic thing for Marvel Studios to do if any of the three made cameo appearances in Deadpool and Wolverine. The beauty of the Multiverse Saga is that anything is possible, and the franchise already proved this in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when John Krasinski made a brief appearance as a variant of Reed Richards - bringing another long-time fan-favorite fan-casting to life. It's a neat way of honoring the fans and making them feel seen, and it sounds like Deadpool and Wolverine is going to do plenty of that, regardless of whether any of those actors appear or not.
We're obviously very excited to see Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine after so long, but it's also going to be interesting to see what other versions of the character join him. If the rumors are anything to go by, we should probably think about retitling this movie "Deadpools and Wolverines".
