We're nearing the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga, which means Earth's Mightiest Heroes are finally bound to assemble after a long hiatus. As the fate of reality as a whole hangs by a thread, many characters from every corner of the universe will jump at the chance to save the day. The official Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal listed over 25 heroes and villains set to have a role in what's shaping up to be the biggest crossover to date. But if that wasn't enough, the first teaser trailer confirmed the return of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers.
Marvel has already sent plenty of exciting reveals our way, yet fans know that the superhero giant is trying to save some big surprises for the release day. After all, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that only one part of the cast has been announced, meaning other iconic heroes we don't know about will be part of Avengers: Doomsday. Since then, speculation has run rampant about who else might join the fight against the Ruler of Latveria, and two new names have reportedly joined the list.

Marvel will reportedly film Avengers: Doomsday reshoots featuring Deadpool and Wolverine
At this point, it's pretty well-known that the mutants and the X-Men will have a major role in Avengers: Doomsday (with a whole teaser trailer dedicated to them). That's why it came as a surprise that heavy-hitters like Deadpool and Wolverine weren't part of the film's original cast announcement. Fortunately, it seems they are set to have an appearance either way.
According to renowned and reliable insider Daniel Richtman, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are set to film new scenes as part of the ongoing Avengers: Doomsday reshoots. While many fans were expecting them to join the all-star film ensemble, there were growing worries that their characters would be saved for Avengers: Secret Wars, as it's rumored to be the case with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. But now that we know that the iconic Mutants will be part of the adventure from the get-go, only one question remains: What role will they play?
It has been reported that Avengers: Doomsday will have one of the best openings in any superhero movie, kicking things off with a big action set piece that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. This sequence has been described as a big fight scene between Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Things will culminate with the fake-out deaths of Logan and Peter Parker, but the two will reportedly be back later in the movie.
A different rumor has indicated that the X-Men's universe has been nearly destroyed on multiple occasions due to recurring incursions. Throughout the years, mutants developed a tactic to ensure their survival and deal with these kinds of situations. Now, they send a few members of their ranks to destroy the Earth that's crashing into theirs, ensuring their home universe lives to see another day. With that in mind, there's a chance this will be the reason Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will battle Wolverine and Deadpool. Perhaps their worlds are on a collision course.
Chris Evans confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars will start filming in a few months, with insider Daniel Richtman indicating that production will start in August. That means every cast rumor we hear from now until then will still be part of the reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday. But now that the movie's release date is getting closer and closer, it won't be long until Marvel releases an official trailer. With a bit of luck, this footage will unveil the return of even more iconic heroes, such as Deadpool and Wolverine. But if that doesn't happen, all signs suggest that we'll see them in December either way.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
