A couple of major things happened in the previous episode of Paramount Plus' School Spirits, and they both involve the ghosts and Simon going into the Forgotten’s scar.
First, after Rhonda and Mr. Martin were dragged into the water in the Forgotten’s scar, they fell into the library. The crucial part is that the librarian saw the watermarks Rhonda and Mr. Martin left and heard the thud when they appeared. Mr. Martin already explained how he was seen during the bus crash that killed the band, but this means it wasn’t a one-time thing.
Second, as Simon approached the white-eyed man (known as Van Heidt), he cut himself and actually bled. It’s shocking because ghosts don’t bleed. That means he’s alive and has lived in that scar and spirit world for decades. Then Van Heidt showed Simon the truth of what happened the day of the flood: It turns out that he didn't trap the kids in church. It was the pastor, and he didn’t lock the kids in the basement. He was trying to protect him. Furthermore, if he can somehow lift the veil between the living in dead, he may be the key to saving Simon.

What to expect in the next episode
Towards the end of the previous episode, Simon learns the truth about what happened the night of the flood that turned the town into Split River. After finding that out, a wave of water flies through a window and drags him away. It's quite possible that, now that the pastor’s story has been told, the water is bringing Simon back to the land of the living.
Also, Van Heidt (who was in Kyle’s body) was shot, and Maddie was left holding him with the murder weapon beside her. While this happened, she was going in and out of her scar as Van Heidt shot himself in the leg. So what happened here? Well it might just be that Van Heidt went into Maddie’s body and shot his former body. We'll have to wait and see.
Maddie has been going in and out of a scar and blacking out since the beginning of the season. Since she has a connection to the dead, Van Heidt could have been the one causing this. It makes sense since he appeared in her scar and shot himself.
As our exclusive clip confirms, "Midsomester" is going to be an emotional one for Wally and Rhonda too, highlighting the fact that the season is almost over.
