Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Brand New Day is making all kinds of history at the box office. The film, a co-production with Marvel Studios, has torn up the box office in the days since its release, smashing domestic box office records for the highest opening day and biggest opening weekend. It has also become the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion, with a $2 billion haul expected before the end of next week. Simply put: Peter Parker is a history maker.
Brand New Day spotlights the hero as he attempts to stop a new super-powered threat that forces him to consider the possibility that keeping his humanity shut off from the rest of the world might not be the best idea. And that emotional rollercoaster has resulted in a lot more investment from fans than even the most die-hard of Spidey nerds expected.
The film's post-credits scene has also made waves since the movie's release.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes the first MCU Spidey movie without a mid-credits scene
Does Spider-Man: Brand New Day have a post-credits scene? Yes, it comes directly at the end of the movie, taking place after the credits are finished rolling completely (even later than you might expect in an attempt to momentarily convince you that it has none). However, this breaks from the typical Spider-Man movie trend of featuring a mid-credits scene as well, which are often more prominent than the tag at the end.
The three previous Spidey movies that are set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all featured mid-credits scenes. 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming saw the Scorpion cross paths with Vulture in prison, pressing him to reveal Spider-Man's true identity (which he did not) while the post-credits scene was one of Captain America's hilarious PSAs. 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home saw Mysterio and J. Jonah Jameson reveal Peter Parker's true identity to the world while its post-credits scene revealed the Skrulls impersonating Nick Fury and Maria Hill. And then 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home somewhat flipped the script, having a humorous-but-major mid-credits scene featuring Tom Hardy's Venom before the after-credits outing was a trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While the Spider-Man: Brand New Day approach is different to its predecessors as it skips the mid-credits scene altogether, it kind of merges both approaches together in the end. See, its post-credits scene is somewhat humorous, but it's also very important to both Spider-Man and the MCU's future.
The scene features Ned Leeds' Spidey Tracker, which seemingly loses Spider-Man's location. The tracker then moves out of New York City, the US, Planet Earth, and eventually beyond the Moon. Out there, deep in Space, Spidey's location is found. And, with that, the film cuts to black with the famous "Spider-Man will return" tagline. It just doesn't make clear when or where that will happen.
Fans weren't sure what to make of the scene as it was a fu little nod to the Spidey Tracker that potentially has game-changing repercussions for the MCU as a whole. Many felt a actual scene showing Spider-Man's apparent trasnference to space would have been much more effective, while others felt that the ending scene between Peter Parker and Ned Leeds would have been a more satisfying close to the film.
While the response to the post-credits scene was mixed, it is an important one all in all. Avengers: Doomsday is on the horizon and, even though it's unclear as to whether or not Tom Holland's webslinger will be in it, it sounds like Doctor Doom's shenanigans could very well lead to some off-world showdowns. So, humorous or not, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's post-credits scene is an incredibly important one. And whether it leads us to Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or Spider-Man 5, it will undoubtedly have major repercussions on the MCU as a whole.
