The masked menace returns! It took a long time, but our first look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally here, and there's plenty to be excited about. Many iconic villains are bound to make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, such as Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula. Furthermore, Peter truly seems to be at the lowest point of his life now that everyone has forgotten he ever existed (which is sure to make Spidey fans happy). But perhaps one of the biggest highlights is the fact that Frank Castle is set to share the screen with Peter Parker.
For years now, Marvel fans have asked to see a proper crossover between Daredevil and Spider-Man. While that day still eludes us, it's clear that the story of these two characters is closely connected.
It all started when Matt Murdock made a brief cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Next thing you know, Kingpin is referencing the wall-crawler in Daredevil: Born Again and you can also hear the Spider-Man theme song in the finale of the first season. Now, a character as closely related to the Man Without Fear as the Punisher will join forces with Peter Parker. But if that weren't enough, the latest Brand New Day trailer indirectly spoiled the ending of Born Again season 2.

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer suggests that the Kingpin won't be New York's mayor anymore
New York is currently under a devilish regime. Wilson Fisk has turned the city upside down with his Anti-Vigilante Task Force and by capturing anyone who dares oppose him. However, it appears that Daredevil won't allow the nightmare to last long.
In the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, it is revealed that everyone's friendly neighborhood hero will get the key to the city. Furthermore, it appears that Sheila Rivera, Fisk's political advisor, is the one handing the key. There's only one problem with this: Wilson would never allow a "masked vigilante" to get the key to the city. After all, he's hunting people like Spider-Man and even stated that New York doesn't need the protection of "a man who dresses in a spider outfit."
It has been officially confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will take place before Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With that in mind, it seems likely that Wilson Fisk will be overthrown as New York City's mayor by the end of Matt Murdock's next adventure. Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time we've heard about such an iconic storyline coming to an end so soon.
Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane had previously revealed that the Mayor Fisk storyline will "come to its inevitable conclusion" with season 2. This would seemingly contradict previous reports about Marvel planning a big street-level movie crossover that would serve as the culmination of the Devil's Reign adaptation that has taken over the MCU's street-level world in recent memory. So does that mean that the plan was discarded?
Renowned insider Alex Perez hinted that Wilson Fisk's storyline will be far from over after the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. After all, it's very well known that the iconic villain's abuse of power allowed him to kidnap and even take out his competition. So, when he returns to the criminal underworld, he'll be at the very top of everything. Fisk could keep hunting heroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and Spider-Man, except this time, he won't have to try to cover his actions to keep up appearances anymore.
It's clear that Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Daredevil: Born Again season 2 are connected, especially since the two projects are rumored to share the same antagonist in the form of The Hand. At first glance, it seems that the wall-crawler's film will directly continue the storyline set up in Born Again. Could that open the door for a small Matt Murdock cameo? Fortunately, it won't be long before we finally have a definite answer.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026.
