We're fast approaching the release of Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The Disney Plus series returns to screens this March (albeit with a potentially confusing release schedule). The comeback is hot off the heels of the success of its first season and fans are ready to see where the gritty story takes them next.
We do know that it will jump off from the first season's cliffhanger-esque ending, in which Matt Murdock's Devil of Hells Kitchen has started putting together an army to take down his longtime archenemy, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, who had just become the new mayor of New York City. It was a convincing story that added new layers to the pair's long-standing history from the original Daredevil series but it may not remain the focal point of the Marvel Cinematic Universe revival for long.
The end is nigh for Daredevil's Mayor Fisk storyline
It sounds like Wilson Fisk's days in office are numbered. Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed as much in a new interview with SFX Magazine, discussing the relevance of the Mayor Fisk story in today's world and how it's set to come to a natural conclusion in season 2. He also teased the next chapter of the Daredevil saga beyond this one, saying:
"So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics. So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics but I like something a little more street level, personally."
There's a lot to unpack here. As great as the Mayor Fisk storyline has been, it is technically a carry-over from the original creative team's vision for Born Again. We know that, at some point along the line, Marvel Studios made the decision to scrap that direction for the show and reinvent it as a sequel to Netflix's Daredevil instead, but that didn't mean scrapping all of the material. Therefore, there were elements of season 1 that felt a bit mismatched - and it ultimately felt like a set-up to a much stronger second season.

It's interesting to hear that Born Again does ultimately plan to move on from Wilson Fisk's political days, because it confirms that the revival was never just concocted to tell one specific story - echoing Brad Winderbaum's comments about Marvel's new long-running television-orientated view of making TV. And with a third - and potentially fourth - season of Daredevil: Born Again already on the way, it's good to know that there are stories beyond this one, too.
As epic as season 2 looks, dragging a storyline out beyond its natural conclusion could run the risk of harming its effectiveness. Thankfully, it sounds like that won't be an issue here. The only question is whether all involved will find a way to maintain Vincent D'Onofrio's gripping villain beyond season 2.
A return to what's worked for Daredevil
Dario Scaradapane's comments also create a sense of intrigue about what the show's storylines could look like beyond the season 2 finale. He referenced the "street level" stories he hopes to tell, and that's undoubtedly the right space for Daredevil: Born Again to occupy. After all, it's what worked so well for the original Netflix show, and it's one of the reasons why season 2 is so heavily anticipated.

There have been rumors that the infamous organization known as The Hand - the overall big bads of the Netflix shows - could return in season 3. That would allow for more of the street-level ninja showdowns that Daredevil does oh-so-well, but a number of fans have pointed out that it would feel a little repetitive considering the villains featured in the second season of the original show, as well as being the overarching villains of Iron Fist and crossover The Defenders.
The truth is that Daredevil: Born Again is already doing a great job telling a grounded version of a pretty larger-than-life political story. If it maintains that tone, while edging closer to the presentation of the Netflix show in season 2, the sky is the limit for what it can accomplish. The same can be said for if and when it tackles more grounded, Frank Miller-inspired storylines in season 3 and beyond.
Just as the original series had the potential to run for many years, Born Again is a concept that has only had its surface scratched when it comes to potential for future stories. Here's hoping that it gets the chance to tell all of them.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on March 24, 2026.
