Official Synopsis
The mystery of the Martian Manhunter is revealed at last as his decades-long plan for world domination comes to fruition!
Spoiler-Free Reaction
A great action-oriented issue that could’ve benefited from better art. This story is a continuation of Justice League United: Futures End #1. The battle between the remaining Justice League members and Captain Atom-turned-bad are where this issue shines. Some may find the dialogue cheesy, but at least there is a lot of showing and not telling — which why it’s a great issue. My gripe with the art is that it looked a bit too juvenile and looked like something you’d find on a bubblegum wrapper. If they mixed the story in with art from Mikel Janin, then this would’ve been a standout issue.
Spoilerific Plot Points
- Captain Atom, in a final bid, was going to destroy himself, so as to cause an explosion so destructive that it would destroy the planet.
- Martian Manhunter morphs into Equinox and tricks Captain Atom. Entering into Captain Atom’s mind, Martian Manhunter is able to put him at peace.
- This issue had no tie-ins with Futures End, but the previous issue, of which this is a continuation of, mentioned the death of Green Arrow and Superman’s disappearance.
