PSA: Big Hero 6 Out Now On Blu-Ray, DVD

When Big Hero 6 first hit theaters, I took my kids to see it on opening day. It was partly for work-related reasons, but also because I figured they would like it. They must have, because my eight-year old daughter has been bugging me nonstop about how she wants the DVD as soon as it comes out, even circling February 24 on her calendar to be sure she doesn’t miss it.

As luck would have it, today is February 24, which means that you can now grab the Academy Award-winning Big Hero 6 for yourself. Just like most home video releases, you can find it in several different forms, and for some pretty nice prices too.

Happily, Disney has packaged the movie in my favorite form, which is Blu-ray + DVD + digital copy. Amazon has that combo for $18.90 right now, while other retailers have it in the $20 to $25 range. Target has those same elements in exclusive collectible Steelbook packaging for $19.99 as well. If you have low tech kids like mine when t comes to movies, you can find the DVD only for around $15.

What you won’t be able to do, at least in the U.S., is get a 3D Blu-ray. That’s consistent with Disney’s feelings about 3D home releases as of late. Some fans choose to have 3D copies imported from the U.K., and you can pre-order one now. But since Big Hero 6 is still in theaters in the U.K. — it only made its way to the big screen in January there — you’ve got a bit of a wait ahead of you.

Anyway, the tl;dr version is this: Big Hero 6 is out now on Blu-ray and DVD, available from all your favorite U.S. retailers, just not in 3D. Get it, watch it again, love it as much as my kids do.
