Dylan O’Brien denies that he’s been cast as Marvel’s Spider-Man

It’s looking like a bad week for Spider-Man film related internet rumours and a good week for the truth. We’ve already had Drew Goddard shooting down a rumour that suggested he’d signed on to write and direct Marve’s Spider-Man. Now we’ve got Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien coming out to deny a completely desperate rumour suggesting he’d already been cast as the new Spider-Man.

The Maze Runner star was approached by Buzzfeed whilst on the set of MTV’s Teen Wolf where, like Goddard, Dylan O’Brien basically admitted that this involvement in the Spider-Man film was news to him!

"“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it, I’ve only heard from, like, [rumors] online. It feels so weird to say,”"

O’Brien would then go on to joke about disappointing his family, friends and fans who all believed that he was the next Spider-Man and hadn’t told them.

"“It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?! It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation. You can tell them that it’s not true.”"

So there you have it, unless we’re once again all being played by the crazy politics of Hollywood and announcements and secrets and what-not Dylan O’Brien hasn’t been cast as the new Spider-Man. Or he has and he’s pretending he hasn’t. Regardless of what’s actually going on, the rising star added that he’d love to be Spider-Man, and praised one of his Spidey competitors, Logan Lerman.

"It’s nothing but flattering,” he said. “It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is [frick]ing fantastic.” He continued, laughing, “It’s really just, you know, I guess I’ll see if I even hear about it? But thank you, internet, for giving me false hope!”"

Is anything true anymore?
