Emmy Award-winning writer Jessica Gao is set to be head writer and showrunner for Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk show on Disney Plus.

As Phase Four of the MCU is about to approach the big and small screen beginning with Black Widow in 2020, Marvel Studios has found a showrunner and head writer in Jessica Gao for the limited web-television series, She-Hulk, which will stream Disney Plus. The Hollywood Reporter made the initial report.

This coincides with the news that Moon Knight has also found its head writer and showrunner. The first of the limited series, which are set to tie in with the MCU films, will be The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is set to come out in the fall of 2020.

Gao, a reputable writer and producer who has penned shows like Silicon Valley, Robot Chicken and The Mighty B!, is perhaps most well-known for her work on Adult Swim’s animated, sci-fi sitcom, Rick and Morty. It was her work on the episode “Pickle Rick” that earned Gao an Emmy Award. It was viewed by over 2.3 million viewers at the time when it first aired.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

It was not too long ago that the She-Hulk TV series was announced to be in development during the Marvel Studios panel at the D23 Expo back in August. Details on the show are scarce, but it will feature Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk as the lead character, who becomes her green-skinned counterpart after receiving a gamma-infused blood transfusion from her cousin, Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

There is a rumor that Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross from The Incredible Hulk and William Hurt’s Thunderbolt Ross could make appearances on the show. As exciting as this sounds, it is merely speculation at this point. But insider Daniel Richtman, who first reported the news, has broken major stories like this in the past, which turned out to be true.

As head writer and showrunner of the series, Gao will be reporting to Kevin Feige. With the president of Marvel Studios, recently promoted to CCO of Marvel Entertainment, the show may well be in good hands. What are your thoughts on Gao’s hiring?
