Jared Leto becomes Morbius in first trailer for Sony’s latest Marvel film
Jared Leto will take another role in a comic-book movie. This time he’s with Marvel as he takes on Morbius for Sony’s Marvel Universe.
The teaser trailer for Morbius is out as Sony remains committed to creating their own Marvel universe adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, in a rather surprising reveal, it appears that the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies and Venom all seemingly connect together as will movie.
Check out the teaser below:
The teaser hints at this at the end when Jared Leto, as the lead character, walks past none other than Michael Keaton – who is most likely reprising his role as Adrian Toomes from Spider-Man: Homecoming. On top of that, Morbius appears to be even set after Spider-Man: Far From Home as there is a scene that includes a Spider-Man poster – with the word “murderer” painted over it.
As for the rest of the teaser trailer, if fans like Venom, then Morbius should be more of the same, at least stylistically.
The look of the movie is very similar with many characters covered in shadows in a very gray atmosphere. The difference is the pace of the trailers as Venom has a more fast-paced vibe while Morbius goes down the Beethoven route evoking classic Dracula.

Morbius is, after all, “the Living Vampire” as the teaser goes through the character’s basic origin story. Michael is the brilliant biochemist that lives with a very rare blood disorder. His attempt to cure himself goes wrong, and he is imbued with pseudo-vampire abilities.
Morbius is something of an obscure character in the Marvel universe, so this teaser serves as a brief introduction to the character with very little overall story beats.
The character was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in the 1970s, and while the character is introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man, he has had many interactions with other Marvel characters like She-Hulk, Ghost Rider and Doctor Strange.
Rumors appear to be true that Matt Smith will be playing the antagonist, Loxias Crown.
Morbius has been an anti-hero of sorts over the decades of comics, and he appears to be portrayed like that here as the character looks to be dealing with his newfound abilities amidst his own internal struggles.
Morbius is set to release on July 31 of this year.
