Despite what Wilson Fisk's fake propaganda may tell you, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of New York City is in rough shape right now. Members of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force are imposing their will without any sense of repercussions. Matt Murdock and Karen Page were forced to go on the run, and now they have to live their lives as fugitives. Worse of all? There are no signs of Foggy Nelson making a comeback soon (but we'll hold onto hope until the very end).
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is now in full swing, with audiences getting a new episode every week, except for the week of March 31, when we'll get a double-episode release. That's right, we'll get double the dose of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. But despite the fact that the journey has just begun, we already have a very good idea of how this epic story of good versus evil will conclude.
Before we go any further, be warned: There could be potential spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Don't keep reading if you don't want any surprises ruined ahead of time.

Still here? Great, then let's talk about the secret weapon that Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and Jessica Jones will use to overthrow the Kingpin of crime.
New photo sparks speculation that Luke Cage will become New York's mayor in Daredevil: Born Again season 2
If you've read the Devil's Reign comic book storyline, then this news probably won't be surprising in the slightest. However, it's nice to know it could become a reality in the near future.
Mike Colter recently shared a new photo that may seem pretty normal at first sight. However, the actor's formal look was more than enough to spark speculation that he'll portray the role of Luke Cage in the MCU and become New York City's mayor after Wilson Fisk eventually loses his current position of power.

See, for months now, it has been reported that The Defenders will come together by the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, adding weight to the idea that Luke Cage is bound to make his MCU debut. Furthermore, the Devil's Reign comic book storyline, which the Disney+ series is based on, is all about the fall of Fisk as New York City's mayor, while Luke Cage takes his position instead. But if that wasn't enough, it's important to remember that it was confirmed that the Mayor Fisk storyline is officially coming to an end this season.
Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed that season 3 will go back to basics and feature a street-level storyline without diving into the world of politics anymore:
"So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with Season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics. So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics, but I like something a little more street level, personally."
Yes, Fisk's days as mayor are numbered.
Given that Jessica Jones has a key role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, it would be very easy for Luke Cage to be brought back into the fold. Besides, if Fisk won't be the mayor anymore, there's no better option than Luke to take his place. That would explain why Spider-Man will receive the key to the city in the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as revealed by the film's trailer. While Kingpin wouldn't allow for such an event to happen, Luke would definitely embrace the heroes trying to protect New York.
Luke Cage could then be a recurring character in Daredevil: Born Again season 3, along with the likes of Danny Rand and Elektra, both of whom are speculated to make a comeback. At long last, Marvel is embracing the Netflix series that came before the Disney+ shows, which is sure to bring a smile to fans. Furthermore, it appears that we're about to see a very faithful adaptation of the source material with Luke Cage acting as New York's mayor, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
