The world is talking about the Avengers: Doomsday trailer - and that's pretty darn impressive considering that it hasn't even been released to the wider public just yet. The film itself isn't set to hit theaters until Christmastime, but Marvel Studios has started the marketing campaign early to remind everyone just what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is capable of when it goes larger-than-life. And believe us when we say that this one will be doing just that.

The trailer screened exclusively to audiences at CinemaCon this month, but there were hopes that it would be released online, too. When that didn't happen, there was pandemonium on the internet as fans clamored for as many updates about the preview that they could get. So the written breakdowns were everywhere while the footage was not. That doesn't, however, mean that a trailer is off the table... at least not yet.

Avengers: Doomsday trailer coming "soon", reportedly has a familiar release plan

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is coming "soon". He adds that he doesn't have a specific date as of yet, but that it likely wouldn't be this past weekend's CCXP Mexico event (and he was ultimately correct as that did not happen). "Soon" is good as it suggests that Marvel Studios has not pivoted from its plan to release the trailer now that it has screened it at CinemaCon.

As for when that could be, here's where the divisive part comes in. Fellow industry insider The Beyond Reporter reveals that they heard that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be released in late May so that it can be attached to the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. This lines up with the rumors that have been circulating about its potential release, but there is a caveat: It will reportedly be theater-exclusive for a period of time, meaning that fans will have to go and see the Star Wars movie in order to see the new look at Avengers: Doomsday.

This is obviously divisive for a number of reasons. First of all, if it turns out to be the case, it means that the trailer wouldn't be released online right away, which would likely extend the waiting game even further for those that don't want to go to a movie theater to watch it. Moreover, not every theater around the world shows the same versions of the trailers, so there is a slight chance that your screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu wouldn't necessarily have the full Avengers: Doomsday trailer attached to it.

Marvel Studios took this approach for the first four teasers of Avengers: Doomsday a number of months ago, attaching them to Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters, releasing one per week - and then subsequently releasing them online on a week's delay. While 100% successful in generating buzz for the movie a whole year out from its release, the format divided audiences because it did result in each trailer being leaked online long before it official release. And if the studio chooses this approach again, we could very well see the same results again.

It goes without saying that Avengers: Doomsday is the most anticipated movie of the year. While it will be the second MCU film of the year after this summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Studios has been placing the spotlight on the upcoming adventure because of what it means for the Multiverse Saga. After six years, this particular MCU storyline is starting to wind down and considering there have been more highs and lows than the studio expected, it needs the culmination of this story to deliver.

Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU as new villain Doctor Doom, which is sure to get a reaction out of Tony Stark's loved ones when they assemble to battle him. Speaking of Tony's friends, the film will also see MCU veterans Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans reprise their respective roles as Thor and Steve Rogers / Captain America, as they team-up with a star-studded cast featuring the stars of Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and even the Fox X-Men movies in the hopes of saving the multiverse from annihilation.

The first full-length teaser trailer gave audiences an idea of what to expect from the film and, well, let's just say that anticipation is at an all-time high for it. Releasing that trailer wide will no doubt increase it further. We're glad to hear that some kind of first look is on the horizon. And if that means going to see a thrilling Star Wars movie to see it, you can bet that the MCU fans will come out in force!

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
