To say that Avengers: Doomsday has been a long time coming would be quite the understatement. The major Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has been the "endgame" of the franchise's Multiverse Saga since it kicked off back in 2021, with this particular version of the title being announced at San Diego Comic-Con in summer 2024 (it had previously been titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty). And with Marvel Studios moving on from Kang the Conqueror in that initial version, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is set to take center stage.

The hype levels for Avengers: Doomsday have been slowly rising since that announcement was made, but they have taken off exponentially since the first official teaser trailer was released ahead of SDCC this year. Another then came soon afterwards at D23's Entertainment Showcase event just one month later. And now, we may have a significant update on the third - and potentially final - official trailer for the movie.

New Avengers: Doomsday trailer expected in the coming weeks

It sounds like we might see a brand new preview of Avengers: Doomsday in the not-too-distant future. Although Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce when the third trailer for the high-profile MCU movie is coming, multiple insiders have reported that the teaser is ready to go, with the hope that it could drop as soon as next week (if not within the two weeks after that).

This all has to do with the fact that we're approaching the two-month mark to its December 18 release (or have already reached the two-month mark to its December 16 UK release date). Yes, the film that is undoubtedly going to be the cinematic event of the year is essentially just two months away, so you can bet that Marvel will be ramping up the coverage in the days ahead. That, of course, will include at least one more major trailer.

Truthfully, we could have more than just one. The second teaser was originally an SDCC exclusive teaser made just for the audiences at San Diego Comic-Con; those normally aren't released online, but the studio opted to share it during the D23 Entertainment Showcase to double down on promoting Avengers: Doomsday at every major panel they can. Marvel was also particularly careful in not calling it a trailer on its social media pages, referring instead to it as "A Special Look".

If the trailer does make its presence felt online in the near-future as the reports suggest, it probably won't be the final one - because, again, we still have two months to go until its actual release and studios often release "final trailers" about a week before the film arrives in movie theaters - but it would give Marvel plenty of time to restart the Avengers: Doomsday conversation and ensure that the hype never stalls (which is unlikely anyway).

It also gives them an opportunity to spotlight a new section of the movie. While there have been new trailers, TV spots, and promos released since those first two, they have all been variations of the ones we have already seen. Some have been slightly extended, others have been condensed into spots, and then there's the ScreenX one which opens up the screen in a way that the original didn't. But all in all, they have been the same, centering specifically on the threat that Doctor Doom poses, his relationship with the Fantastic Four, and his showdown with Thor (along with the return of the X-Men).

A third trailer would likely give fans a little more backstory - specifically when it comes to the movie's plot, which very much remains a mystery at this point. Yes, there are rumors, and yes there are many of them, but Marvel Studios intentionally hasn't been very forthcoming about what happens in the movie outside of those aforementioned scenes.

With the recent release of Avengers Endgame: Encore teasing the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, it does sound like some of those rumors are true. Now, with a brand new trailer, Marvel Studios has the chance to officially confirm that - reigniting excitement for the MCU's massive, upcoming extravaganza.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
