It's safe to say that 2026 is a major year for movies. We've seen that already with high-profile releases like Project Hail Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Meanwhile, the likes of Obsession and The Mandalorian and Grogu are setting the summer box office alight ahead of superhero fare like Masters of the Universe, Supergirl and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the coming months. Truthfully, however, it's all building towards Avengers: Doomsday.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe juggernaut is expected to be the biggest movie of the year. The buzz is already at an all-time high as fans eagerly await the official online release of that ever-illusive CinemaCon trailer. Unfortunately, it's going to be a while before that comes out, because it's most recent expected window has come and gone.
Avengers: Doomsday trailer officially not tied to The Mandalorian and Grogu's release
Well, it's official: There is no trailer for Avengers: Doomsday attached to the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Star Wars flick has arrived in movie theaters this weekened to much anticipation but Mando and Grogu have not brought a new look at the upcoming MCU film with them, meaning that another potential window for the trailer's release has been overlooked. And, having seen the movie in theaters myself, I can confirm that there is no Marvel trailer beforehand.
I'm not the only either. Industry insider Cryptic4KQual confirmed that this would be the case ahead of the film's wide release, with speculation that Marvel Studios is holding the clip for one of two major events. The first is, of course, San Diego Comic-Con, as Marvel Studios does indeed have a panel at the annual event, which means that they are making their triumphant return to Hall H after skipping last year. The second is upcoming Marvel / Sony collaboration Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with the theory being that they might attach it to the start of that film like they were rumored to do for The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The studio has already released four first look teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday, with each one spotlighting different characters. Those generated a lot of early hype for the movie from December 2025 through to January of this year. And when reports that a new trailer would be unveiled at CinemaCon surfaced, the hype increased even further. Unfortunately for everyone who didn't attend CinemaCon, the trailer itself was never released online.
Marvel fans have spent the past month reading detailed breakdowns and recaps of that trailer, which featured some major MCU and X-Men comebacks, hoping that the studio would one day release it. But with The Mandalorian and Grogu being the most likely potential release window for that, it now looks like the studio will plan to unveil a brand new trailer on the grandest stage of them all: Hall H.
Why not Spider-Man? Two reasons: First of all, it's Sony that oversees the marketing for Spidey movies so, even though they are set in the MCU, they will be running point on Brand New Day. That makes spotlighting a trailer for a bigger Marvel movie - that Sony aren't involved in - seem questionable. That's not to say that it might not showcase the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, it's just that it likely wouldn't be revealed ahead of the movie - as the buzz might overshadow Spider-Man.

So, back to Comic-Con. This is the event that the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige announced that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty had officially become Avengers: Doomsday. It's the event in which they officially confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU in the new role of villain Doctor Doom. With that very movie coming out this year, you can bet that Hall H at SDCC will look to break the internet once more. Releasing the trailer then and there on July 25 could very well do that. And it could then, theoretically, be attached to Spider-Man: Brand New Day when it releases one week later.
Although it would have made sense to unveil the clip ahead of The Mandalorian and Grogu considering how closely related the Star Wars and Marvel fanbases are, it's probably too early to release another trailer to the wider public. SDCC is a much safer bet considering how it's on the horizon but still far enough off to build anticipation. This can also officially launch the marketing campaign and allow the studio to focus intently on promoting it ahead of its Christmastime release.
But don't let the lack of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer discourage you from going to see The Mandalorian and Grogu because it is truly a great time!
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
