A lot of people will talk about Warner Bros and DC Studios cancelling shows and movies (there have been a lot of those in the past few years), but Marvel and Disney have done it as well. It's not as widely publicized as it often happens quietly but, according to reports, it has happened. Most of Marvel's Disney+ projects don’t get renewed, even if they get good reviews or high streaming numbers. Although most are generally miniseries, there were a few that could have returned for multiple seasons, with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law reportedly being cancelled due to its larger budget and mixed response. And while Moon Knight was seemingly successful, the demand for the Lunar Legionnaire to return has seemingly resulted in the studio trying to find a way to make that comeback take place on the big screen.
One of Marvel Television's newest hit shows on Disney Plus is Daredevil: Born Again. And like the original Daredevil show's debut on Netflix, people have raved about how good it is. It isn’t just the action or the colorful characters. The elite storytelling kept people tuning in weekly. It also helps that it premiered at a day and time that fits when people watch TV. That’s why it wasn’t surprising to learn that a season 2 was already in the works. However, it was a very pleasant surprise to learn that it had already been renewed for a third season, which has allowed it to make history for the MCU.
Daredevil: Born Again's season 3 renewal makes MCU history
With Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum confirming that Daredevil: Born Again season 3 has been greenlit (and starts filming next year), the show makes history as the first live-action Marvel Studios series to earn a third season renewal. That's something that not even Loki, which was the only live-action MCU series to get a second season renewal at the time, can boast.

It's well-documented that Marvel Studios series tend to last for only one season due to the fact that most of them are designed as miniseries. But, as we mentioned above, there were some that could have feasibly returned for second seasons had they not been quietly cancelled. The studio has shown interest in bringing back Hawkeye for a second season, but those plans are currently on hold. But a third season for a live-action MCU series is a first, and now Daredevil: Born Again can claim the title of the first show to make it happen.
It certainly seems odd that this is the first live-action Marvel Studios TV show to get a third season when a lot of the franchise's earlier shows could have run for more seasons, but it is worth pointing out that the previous iteration of Marvel Television (which used to be a completely separate entity from Marvel Studios) did produce shows which ran beyond two seasons, including the Marvel Netflix shows. Those shows are Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and, funny enough, Daredevil.
Now, we can't necessarily rule out one of the Marvel Studios Disney Plus shows getting another season as the studio itself could announce a renewal for any one of them at any given time, but with their new move towards ongoing television shows (instead of miniseries), Daredevil: Born Again works the bill as a more grounded project. It also pushes the adult content further, which makes it more suitable for TV. And while I hold out hope that the likes of Ironheart, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will return for more seasons too, it’s not likely at this point.

If we're being honest, no one should be shocked that Daredevil: Born Again is going to enjoy a longer run than most of the other Marvel shows. People love the rivalry between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. It’s a classic little guy against the bigger bully (in the physical sense and due to Fisk’s political power). Viewers want to see if and how Matt Murdock can defeat the Kingpin/Mayor of New York City. It leads to a lot of brutal fights and mature content. And you can bet that there will be plenty of that in both the second and third seasons. There also might be a surprise return!
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will premiere in Spring 2026.
