It's safe to say that Marvel fans are ready for Avengers: Doomsday. They are over-ready at this point, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been teasing the massive crossover event for years now, with the Multiverse Saga all building towards this moment. Although the film has undergone a number of transformations since Avengers 5 was made official, it was the confirmation that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the franchise in a brand new role - as villain Doctor Doom - that really set the table for things to come.

The larger-than-life spectacle is now set for less than two months from now, which means the promo train has been working overtime. And that involves releasing a number of shorter teaser trailers, TV spots, and promos. Look no further than the most recent of the teasers, which officially reintroduces a Marvel legend back into the fold - with other characters reacting to his return for the first time.

Steve Rogers rejoins the Avengers in new Doomsday teaser

He's back: Steve Rogers is once again standing side-by-side with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the new teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. The clip sees the former Captain America discuss the dangers that Doctor Doom poses to the multiverse with Thor before he greets the wider team of Avengers in what is surely going to be an emotionally charged moment within the movie.

Watch the trailer below:

The teaser opens with Thor and Steve discussing Doom's arrival and his evil intentions before telling us that three teams will become one. Those three teams are, of course, the Avengers (comprised of both the rebuilt OG team and Yelena Belova's New Avengers), the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. And that means that Doom will have his work cut out for him, because that is one of the biggest - and most formidable - superhero teams to ever grace the silver screen.

The Avengers do get a boost from the fact that Steve Rogers is back. Although we all knew that Chris Evans would be reprising his role as the original Cap, the teasers have featured very little footage of him in action. That's not the case here, as he features heavily in the 30-second clip, speaking to the team - which is new footage that did not originate in any of the previous trailers.

The scene features Steve standing before an audience that features the likes of Yelena Belova (a.k.a. Black Widow), Shang-Chi, Thor, Ant-Man, Joaquin Torres / Falcon, Ghost, Red Guardian, John Walker, and his two best friends Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson (a.k.a. the new Captain America). And that leads to a moment in which Ant-Man instinctually refers to his old friend and collage as "Cap" despite the fact that he doesn't hold the mantle anymore before then attempting to correct himself by referring to both Steve and Sam as "Captains America". Thor then shuts his eyes in disgust.

The trailer also features two scenes showcasing Steve wielding Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. The first of these is the same scene that featured in the original Avengers: Doomsday trailer from July as Steve stretches out his arm and summons the God of Thunder's hammer right into his hand. The second closes out the teaser, as Steve jokingly asks Thor is his ability to wield Mjolnir bothers him, to which Thor replies "You know it does." The pair are then whisked up into the sky by the Bifrost.

Considering that this was just a 30-second teaser trailer, it was pretty game-changing. The biggest thing to note is that it relies heavily on newer footage. Yes, there are snapshots from previous trailers in there - from the X-Men fighting the Avengers to Doom's physical defeat of Thor - but the vast majority of it leans on two new scenes of Steve Rogers. Considering that his big return is one of the main focal points of the upcoming movie, that was probably a wise choice. This clip is essentially a TV spot, so highlighting his return in those spots is a good idea.

The other thing of note is, again, Steve's return to the Avengers. We have known that he has been returning for sometime now, but to see him standing there alongside different generations of the Avengers team is an incredibly exhilarating watch. While he obviously has established relationships with the likes of Bucky, Sam, Thor, and Scott Lang (a.k.a. Ant-Man), it's equally as awesome to see him standing opposite Shang-Chi and Yelena.

Steve Rogers is back and now he's ready to help lead Earth's Mightiest Heroes into battle one more time.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 16, 2026.
