What the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer tells us about those 'leaks'

The secret to determining the validity of the apparent Avengers: Doomsday leaks reportedly lie in the film's new trailer.

Marvel fans are waiting patiently for Avengers: Doomsday but, as the film is officially six months away, that patience has gotten worn down. It's not down to the waiting itself (fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are more than used to that), but more due to the exhausting wait for a trailer that has felt like it's simply not coming. Now, this might be Marvel Studios' own fault due to starting the promo train early (four Avengers: Doomsday trailers were released earlier this year), but the reasoning is more geared towards the CinemaCon trailer that never surfaced online.

We know it exists because it was indeed screened to an audience of potential moviegoers at the event (and detailed breakdowns have since surfaced online), but the studio's refusal to release it online has left fans deflated. They have since sidestepped major events - such as the release of fellow Disney film The Mandalorian and Grogu - where they could have subsequently unveiled it. And now, new apparent leaks from the MCU film have since dominated the conversation, with that CinemaCon trailer at the forefront of the speculation.

Avengers: Doomsday 'leaks' reportedly tied to CinemaCon trailer

Over the weekend, new clips from Avengers: Doomsday seemingly surfaced online. Now, this should be prefaced with the fact that the footage is heavily pixelated, unclear whether it's AI or not, and Marvel Studios has not yet pulled the majority off the internet. That naturally suggests that it might not be real after all, but there is enough evidence to suggest that it might be too - specifically down to the fact that fellow Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day was hit with major leaks last week.

The clips, which seemingly feature the film's iconic Avengers team-up scene as the heroes battle what appears to be both Doctor Doom and Sentinels, has understandably generated a lot of buzz online. Again, it's unclear whether the clip is official, unfinished footage from the film or not, but one thing that heavily suggests that it might be is the fact there are multiple users online claiming that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer that was released at CinemaCon featured snippets of this battle sequence - particularly in regards to Thor, Steve Rogers, and Doctor Doom himself.

One user even responded to the rumors with a claim that it was real footage and that simply had unfinished visual effects. Why make such a statement? Because it reportedly "matches up with what was shown at CinemaCon". The full post, from social media platform X (formerly Twitter), reads:

"After discussing with multiple people about authenticity of the leaked DoomsDay footage, it matches up with what was shown at CinemaCon. It is real, it simply has unfinished VFX effects."

As always, when it comes to rumors - and especially Marvel rumors - it's important to take them with a grain of salt. Fans have remained sceptical of the footage since it surfaced, but it's fair to say that a large portion of fans do believe this one to be real. Adding to that, a number of reliable insiders have also claimed that these particular leaks might be real. And yet, in an age of AI, it's still possible that it's fake (and that the pixels are simply generated to hide any potential fakery).

As for the Avengers: Doomsday trailer's actual release date, there is only one viable option now: San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios is set to stage a triumphant return to Hall H in July and, with only Avengers: Doomsday to promote (Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Sony's jurisdiction), you can rest assured that the first teaser trailer for the film will be unveiled there. Whether it's the CinemaCon one or a completely different trailer entirely remains to be seen. But that's definitely where you can expect it to release.

Avengers: Doomsday features a star-studded MCU cast full of familiar Marvel faces. Original Avengers veterans Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth lead the charge while some of the Multiverse Saga's front-facing stars, Simu Liu, Anthony Mackie, and Thunderbolts* favorites Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman reprise their roles as well. They are joined by The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, while X-Men legends Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Channing Tatum return as Marvel's Mightiest Mutants.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
