Many of the original Avengers are now out of the picture, but it seems one of them will finally jump back into action during the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

Back in 2012, audiences worldwide witnessed Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble for the very first time on the big screen. 14 years later, some of these original Avengers are unfortunately out of the picture. Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow paid the ultimate price to defeat Thanos and his forces. Furthermore, Steve Rogers traveled to the past to live a peaceful life with Peggy Carter. To make things worse, no one has seen Hawkeye in years, and the Hulk hasn't turned into a savage monster for quite some time. Fortunately, things are about to change.

After being out of the picture since 2019, Steve Rogers will come out of retirement to attempt to save the day once more. To make things more interesting, Savage Hulk will be introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it has been rumored that this weapon of mass destruction will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. will also come back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although as Doctor Doom. So, to keep the streak going, it was time for another original member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to make his triumphant return.

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday

According to insider James Mack, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will return in Avengers: Doomsday. The last time audiences saw the iconic hero in action was during the events of the Hawkeye Disney+ miniseries, in which Clint Barton officially gave up the Ronin persona and settled for a simpler life with his family.

Marvel could be looking to reunite most of the original Avengers (or at least, their respective actors) during the events of Doomsday. The film's first official trailer, screened exclusively to attendees at CinemaCon 2026, revealed that Thor and Steve Rogers will team up, and the latter will even get to wield Mjolnir. Furthermore, leaked footage reveals that these two heroes will cross paths with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

If you were to add Savage Hulk and Hawkeye into the mix, five out of the original six Avengers actors would share the screen in the same movie. While there haven't been any rumors of Scarlett Johansson returning to the franchise, Black Widow's sister, Yelena Belova, is confirmed to appear in the upcoming MCU crossover. So she could act as Natasha's spiritual successor.

Interestingly enough, leaked Avengers: Doomsday concept art has revealed that Kate Bishop will also have a role to play in the upcoming film. So, perhaps she will be the one to find Hawkeye and convince him to step out of the shadows and fight for the fate of the multiverse. After all, incursions will affect everyone living in the MCU, so there's no reason for long-time heroes to miss out on the action.

Disney seemingly ruled out a second season of the Hawkeye Disney+ show back in January, and fans have been wondering where we would see the character ever since. However, Jeremy Renner stated that he'll "always dance with Marvel," meaning he'd be happy to return to such an iconic role. So even if he won't do so as part of his standalone project, it seems we'll see him once more in a big MCU crossover.

Out of all the Avengers movies released so far, Clint Barton has only missed out on the events of Avengers: Infinity War. However, Marvel made up for that by giving him a big role in Endgame. It's clear he's a fan favorite that fans are always happy to see on the big screen, so it comes as no surprise that he could participate in one of the biggest superhero movies ever made. The only question remaining is what his role could be like.

The leaked Avengers: Doomsday concept art showcased the Young Avengers paired with Chris Pratt's Star-Lord. Could there be a chance that Peter Quill and Hawkeye act as mentors of the next generation of heroes? Fortunately, it won't be long before we finally find out.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec.18, 2026.
