Last week’s comic books didn’t disappoint. X-Factor No. 1 showed that it will be an entertaining series. It's unlike any of the new X-titles bringing something original. Miles Morales: Spider-Man No. 23 revealed that Miles’ venom powers keep his vampiric powers at bay. However, if he uses them too much, he could die. And, as always, Transformers No. 11 was perfect. That issue could lead to a big fight between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

This week is heavy with new DC comic books to look forward to. Let’s start with the pick of the week.

Nightwing No. 117 (pick of the week)

  • Writer: Tom Taylor
  • Artist: Bruno Redondo

While Batman is dressed as Nightwing in Bludhaven, Dick Grayson continues his journey to overcome his fear of heights. And, according to ComiXology, Dick learns a secret about his parent’s death. Does Deadman know something he never told Dick Grayson?

This is the penultimate issue of Tom Taylor’s soon-to-be historic run of Nightwing. You don’t want to miss this.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest No. 30

  • Writer: Mark Waid
  • Artist: Gleb Melnikov

This issue will highlight the first time DC Comics’ trilogy (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) teams up. Mark Waid has done an amazing job with older stories of Batman and Superman's adventures. Adding Wonder Woman to the mix will only improve what he’s doing.

Superman No. 17

  • Writer: Joshua Williamson
  • Artist: Jamal Campbell

After Absolute Power No. 2, Superman and Zatanna journey to the “Darkest areas of DC.” As dangerous as Amanda Waller is, they could be going to worse places. Zatanna is treading close to Constantine's levels of deal-making. Hopefully, it'll be worth it.

Wonder Woman No. 12

  • Writer: Tom King
  • Artists: Tony Salvador Daniel and Belén Ortega

Tom King has delivered monthly must-read issues of Wonder Woman, but he may outdo himself with issue No. 12. This issue will have Diana Prince and Damian Wayne teaming up. That alone makes this an intriguing read.

Phoenix No. 2

  • Writer: Stephanie Phillips
  • Artist: Alessandro Miracolo

Stephanie Phillips will have the difficult task of outdoing herself after the fantastic first issue of Phoenix. Thankfully, she’s been a trustworthy writer for years. If that isn’t enough, the last issue ended with Jean Grey and Corsair being chased by Thanos’  Black Order.

Wolverine: Revenge No. 1

  • Writer: Jonathan Hickman
  • Artist: Greg Capullo

A Wolverine mini-series with dinosaurs being written by Jonathan Hickman? Do I need to say more? Well, how about ComiXology stating that Logan has been beaten, bloodied, and looking for revenge?

Ultimate Spider-Man No. 8

  • Writer: Jonathan Hickman
  • Artist: Marco Checchetto

Tony Stark told Peter Parker he had six months to become a hero and time’s up. How will Iron Lad react to Spider-Man’s journey to being a hero? Is Peter ready to join The Ultimates?

Destro No. 3

Destro is on his own without any weapons against someone trying to kill him. There’s no way Destro dies, but this issue will show exactly what he’s made of.

  • Writer: Dan Watters
  • Artists: Adriano Lucas and Andrea Milana

Jenny Sparks

  • Writer: Tom King
  • Artist: Jeff Spokes

Quick and to the point. If DC Comics publishes a Black Label comic book, it’s a safe bet it will be good. But that’s not all. All-star Tom King is writing Jenny Sparks. King already has Black Label successes like Batman/Catwoman and Human Target on his résumé. There’s no doubt this will be good as well.

Predator vs Black Panther

  • Writer: Benjamin Percy
  • Artists: Chris Allen, Lee Ferguson, and Sean Hill

Benjamin Percy’s Predator and Wolverine puts the savagery of Logan against the superior tech of the Yautja (Predator vs Wolverine). Now, the Yautja are fighting something better than anything they’ve faced. In search of vibranium, they come across the Black Panther.

Older Pick: Far Sector

  • Writer: N.K. Jemisin
  • Artist: Jamal Campbell

Famed writer  N.K. Jemisin (Broken Earth) created one of the best-written comic books I’ve ever read and it's combined with stunning artwork by Jamal Campbell (Superman). Plus, it's the first appearance of Sojourner Mullein.

Far Sector shows Sojourner Mullein’s first mission and it's on a planet even the Green Lanterns don't police. If that's not enough, Sojourner's given an experimental Green Lantern Ring right before the planet's first murder in centuries. This leads to civil unrest and prejudice. Something she's familiar with as a Black woman from Earth.
