Former Marvel star teases jaw-dropping MCU return in Deadpool and Wolverine
Anything can happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is a sentiment fans have believed since the franchise's inception brought some of their favorite comic book characters to the silver screen, but it seems even more possible now over 15 years in. The reason for that is, of course, the Multiverse Saga.
Thanks to the endless possibilities that the exploration of the multiverse presents, we have already seen some truly stunning cameo appearances and character returns. Deadpool and Wolverine looks set to carry on that trend, with rumors aplenty about potential returnees.
However, one MCU actor who wasn't expected to return has sent fans into meltdown with a potential tease that he might.
Michael B. Jordan sends fans into meltdown with potential Deadpool and Wolverine tease
Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan recently reposted the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer on Instagram, which has understandably led to fans speculating that he could make an appearance in the movie. The actor didn't add any caption to the post, simply sharing the official trailer video in his Instagram story, but it isn't hard to see why the simple, silent share has started a conversation about his potential return. As has the fact that Hugh Jackman reposted his repost on his Instagram story. See why fans are speculating?
Now, Jordan was an important part of the MCU franchise, so it could just be that he's a fan keeping up with the saga and sharing his excitement for the next chapter. However, it could also be a subtle hint that he will be involved in some kind of way. Jackman's repost could also support this theory.
The star appeared in Black Panther playing the role of Erik Killmonger. To say he was fantastic would be an understatement, with the consensus being that Killmonger is one of the MCU's strongest, most-nuanced villains. And honestly, it's hard to argue with that.
The notion of seeing Michael B. Jordan return as the character - even if it were just for a cameo appearance - is very exciting indeed. However, Killmonger is not the only character he could be playing...
Could Killmonger appear in Deadpool and Wolverine?
Even though Killmonger died during the battle with T'Challa at the climax of Black Panther, the short answer to whether he could appear in Deadpool and Wolverine would be: Yes. Remember, anything is possible in the MCU during this Multiverse Saga, so if Michael B. Jordan found time to film a cameo, it could happen.
With Wade Wilson and Logan finding themselves on a separate earth from the MCU's Earth-616, there is a strong possibility that we could see variants of just about any MCU character. After all, if they are from a different earth, they are different versions of the character and thus wouldn't affect the continuity of the ones we had previously met. Heck, the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer confirmed that the Logan in the movie is a different version from the one we knew for two decades in Fox's X-Men franchise.
We know that there will be a big battle sequence in The Void, so it's quite plausible that Killmonger could be involved in that. Nobody loves a battle more than he does, and that scene is already confirmed to feature a number of cameos from the X-Men saga (as well as the X-Men casting that never was and a rumored cameo from Daredevil and Elektra's Jennifer Garner). Could Logan and Wade end up battling a variant of Killmonger before those Doctor Strange portals surface in the sky?
If Jordan does reappear in the upcoming MCU film as Killmonger, it will be the second time he reprises the role (after he made an unexpected cameo in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever).
Michael B. Jordan might appear as Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm
What's really added fuel to the rumor fire (pun very much intended) is the possibility that Jordan could be reprising his role as Johnny Storm (a.k.a. the Human Torch) from 2015's Fantastic Four.
The ill-fated movie was released by Fox in a bid to revive the franchise (which prevented the rights from reverting back to Marvel for sometime) but the negative response and poor box office performance stopped the saga in its tracks before it could even get out of the gate. Critics were not kind to it, with many calling it one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
Nevertheless, Jordan's performance as Johnny Storm was one of the better aspects of the movie and there is no doubt that fans would be thrilled to see him reappear as the character in what is sure to be a far stronger film. And given the endless possibilities that a multiversal movie like Deadpool and Wolverine provides, there is a pretty solid chance that it could happen.
Of his two Marvel characters, a return as Johnny Storm would probably make the most sense for Jordan for this movie. Deadpool and Wolverine is looking like it will be all about nods and references to the Fox era Marvel movies, and considering Fantastic Four falls under that category, it's possible that we could see some of the cast reappear in the MCU outing.
As always, it's best to reserve your excitement for any potential cameos or returns until confirmed by Marvel Studios, but we do have to admit that it would be great to see Michael B. Jordan back in the MCU - in any capacity.
