Spider-Man spin-off film ‘Sinister Six’ delayed indefinitely but still going ahead

We know that we’re getting a new Spider-Man film set within the boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Spider-Man will be appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film before that happens. (most likely Captain America: Civil War, but it could be Avengers: Age of Ultron)

We also know that Andrew Garfield is almost certainly out as Spider-Man and that the Amazing Spider-Man film franchise probably isn’t going to be finished as a trilogy, meaning that Amazing Spider-Man 3 is pretty much cancelled, despite that IMDB page.

But what does the deal between Sony and Marvel over Spider-Man mean for Sony’s other announced Spider-Man films, such as Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six, the Venom Carnage spin-off and even that all-female Spider-Man team-up movie?

More from Spider-Man

Well, there’s no news on Venom Carnage and Project Glass Ceiling yet but we do have an update on Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six, which was due for release in 2016. The Wall Street Journal has reported, via comicbook.com, the following information relating to the Sinister Six spin-off.

"Sony will delay its planned release of “The Sinister Six,” about a group of Spider-Man villains, in wake of the new deal said a person involved in movie. It had been scheduled for release in November of 2016. – WSJ"

That’s unfortunately all we know at the moment, meaning that it seems that Sinister Six has been postponed indefinitely for now but is still well and truly on the table for Sony, who retain all rights for Spider-Man so are free to make whichever films they like under the current deal with Marvel! So it could still definitely happen!
