2015 has been turning out to be a pretty quiet year for the DC Cinematic Universe.  We first had a huge rumor and supposed evidence that a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer was to be shown during Super Bowl XLIX.  Waiting till the end of the broadcast, fans were left disappointed and angry when nothing was revealed.  Next, a rumor pointed to the trailer being attached to Jupiter Ascending, the latest offering from the Wachowskis — again, nothing.

But Zack Snyder loves his fans.  So today, he broke the silence and started up his promo engine with an image of Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven Seas — Aquaman:

First thing that comes to mind: yes, the dude looks tough! This shouldn’t be a surprise as Snyder has been vocal about his respect for the character.  General audiences may raise an eyebrow thinking, “This ain’t no Aquaman I’m familiar with.  He’s only suppose to talk to fish and wear orange and green spandex.”  Fans of DC will know that this can’t be further from the truth.  Throughout the years, Aquaman has become progressively darker and more powerful.  In his realm of water — and sometimes even on land — Aquaman is able to go toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel himself.

The costume does look great and elaborate.  And Momoa himself will need to get use to this because he’s signed on to play the superhero for four films.  Talk about job security.

Aquaman is slated to make his debut — or a cameo at least — in the upcoming, highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which has a United States release date of March 25, 2016.  It will be directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from a story by David Goyer and Zack Snyder, and will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves, Holly Hunter as a United States Senator, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone / Cyborg, and Callan Mulvey, Scoot McNairy, and Jena Malone in unspecified roles.
