There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel first showed it to attendees at CinemaCon 2026, and everyone in the room shared nothing but praise for what they saw. There were glimpses of Earth's Mightiest Heroes fighting the X-Men, Steve Rogers reuniting with Thor, and Doctor Doom stopping an axe swing from the god of thunder with just two fingers.

Now, superhero fans await the day when the footage gets released online. It has been widely theorized that the public trailer will be slightly different from the one showcased at CinemaCon, perhaps adding just a minor scene or two into the mix. However, those suspicions may turn out to be way off, as Marvel could also take this opportunity to shock the world by revealing the return of a beloved multiversal hero.

Fasten your seatbelts, because things could get very exciting very quickly.

The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer could unveil Tobey Maguire's return as Spider-Man

It has been reported that Hasbro intends to unveil its first wave of Marvel Legends figures for Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. This batch will consist of four different characters: Doctor Doom, Thor, Captain America, and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. The latter is the only one of them all who hasn't been confirmed to appear in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover, so revealing his return with a Hasbro figure seems highly unlikely... unless the curtain has already been dropped by that point.

After skipping SDCC in 2025, Marvel intends to make an explosive return in 2026. That's why it has been heavily speculated that the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be publicly released there. Granted, if Tobey indeed appears in the movie, it would seem highly unlikely that Disney would reveal his role in any promotional material prior to the film's release. However, it's important to remember that a lot is riding on the next two Avengers movies.

It's no secret that Marvel had a very uneven Multiverse Saga; so much so that it hurt its reputation. At some point, the MCU movies stopped being guaranteed box-office hits. Even when critics praised the likes of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, audiences didn't show up to see them (at least not enough to break even). That's why Avengers: Doomsday's success is instrumental for the future of the MCU, and the fact that the film's marketing started a year in advance supports this idea.

The four teaser trailers released so far have focused on different groups of heroes, showcasing the level of spectacle that awaits. Marvel wants the world to know that there will be original Avengers in Doomsday, such as Thor. Furthermore, audiences heard loud and clear that X-Men variants from the Fox era will be appearing in the movie.

As if that wasn't enough, Disney also released a trailer focusing on Wakandans and the Fantastic Four. But the cherry on top? Steve Rogers' highly anticipated return was also revealed in the very first teaser. So why not double down on the promotional material by showcasing Tobey swinging across New York's skyline?

Avengers: Doomsday is bound to have many surprises in store, so much so that it has been reported that nine key MCU characters who will appear in the movie haven't been announced yet. With that in mind, Marvel can definitely afford to reveal Tobey's big-screen return as Spider-Man at SDCC. After all, fans already suspect he will be in it.

Not only was Tobey back as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but many different reports have stated that he will be in Avengers: Doomsday. There would be no harm in making his return official, and what better time to do so than SDCC with the film's first trailer? After all, the upcoming event will take place just a few days before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That means the trailer could then be attached to the wall-crawler's upcoming film, and fans of the character would learn that he'll join Earth's Mightiest Heroes later this year.

In a little over a month, we'll finally discover what Marvel has in store for SDCC. Even if Tobey is nowhere to be seen, we are still likely to get the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, so that's already a huge victory. However, all signs indicate that we'll get confirmation of his return, and we couldn't be any more excited.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
