Very few threats are dangerous enough that they need to be dealt with by the Avengers themselves. That's why Earth's Mightiest Heroes have been out of the picture for more than seven years now, and while the Marvel Cinematic Universe has (mostly) done well without them, history won't be so kind in the years to follow. The multiverse as a whole is marked for doom, and multiple heroes will be needed to save it.
Avengers: Doomsday will bring together over 25 iconic characters from every corner of the MCU in one epic adventure. Veterans like Thor and Steve Rogers will jump back into action, while newcomers such as the Fantastic Four and Shang-Chi will work with a larger team for the very first time in cinematic history. The upcoming superhero crossover is already stacked, and a new report suggests that we'll see even more heroes step up to save the multiverse.

At least 8 to 9 secret characters will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday
Everyone wants the spotlight. According to renowned and reliable insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), there are at least 8 to 9 unannounced characters from the mainline MCU who will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as the actors behind them have already filmed their scenes on set.
A key point to note here is that these aren't characters from the wider multiverse, such as Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, or Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool (who will all reportedly appear in the film either way). We're talking about people who live in the Sacred Timeline instead, so who could they be?
Kathryn Newton recently announced that she'll reprise her role as Cassie Lang in Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, leaked concept art for the upcoming MCU crossover revealed that the Young Avengers will all be coming together, including Cassie herself. With that in mind, it isn't far-fetched to assume that Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Wiccan, and Speed are among the unannounced heroes who will also fight for the fate of the multiverse.
The concept art also unveiled that both Vision and Star-Lord will be part of the big superhero ensemble Marvel is bringing together for its upcoming film. Wong is another very likely candidate, given that he's currently the Sorcerer Supreme and always tends to appear in big MCU projects. And speaking of sorcerers, it's very likely that Avengers: Doomsday will finally reveal what Doctor Strange and Clea have been up to since we saw them jump into a portal to stop an upcoming incursion.

Last, but certainly not least, it has been widely reported and hinted that She-Hulk will be in Avengers: Doomsday. Not only that, but the leaked concept art showed her side by side with Bruce Banner's Hulk, so he's another very likely candidate to join the adventure.
While plenty of characters could join Avengers: Doomsday, the same cannot be said for certain fan favorites. Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch will reportedly miss out on the events of Doomsday, with their big comeback being saved for Avengers: Secret Wars instead. Similarly, the jury is still out on whether we'll see Hawkeye save the world once more, and Oscar Isaac confirmed that Moon Knight won't join Earth's Mightiest Heroes anytime soon. And by this point, it's all but a given that Marvel gave up on the Eternals.
It's clear that Marvel has a lot of big surprises in store for us, and hopefully some of them will come our way earlier than expected. It has been reported that the first official Avengers: Doomsday trailer will debut at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and that Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker will be confirmed as part of the movie at the event. With a bit of luck, we'll also get an announcement regarding the identity of any of the eight secret characters.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
