In a year in which Marvel Studios has just two movies on the horizon, it has picked the right two. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday are set to be two of the biggest movies of the year - if not the two biggest - and expectations are at an all-time high as to what the Multiverse Saga could offer up from two of its last installments.
Although Spider-Man is coming out first, Marvel has put a more direct marketing push on the latter as the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's current chapter is riding on the success of that movie. As a result, we have already seen four Avengers: Doomsday trailers released practically a whole year out from the movie's release date. Naturally, Spidey fans are curious about when the marketing for Brand New Day begins. But, if we're being honest, there is one moment that really started this campaigning from the audience. If you were online in December, you'll probably know what it is.
Spider-Man fans call for Brand New Day trailer two months after leak
Back when Marvel Studios unveiled the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday in theaters, it wasn't long until it surfaced online. Despite Marvel's best efforts, video recordings and written breakdowns gave fans an insight into the first look at Chris Evans' MCU comeback. As disappointing as it was for Marvel, this leak was expected. What wasn't expected was the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer leaking out that same week. Yes, it was chaos.
Nobody knows how that happened, but Sony acted fast to pull the footage in a bid to avoid spoilers from the film from making their way around the internet. It was effective to a point, but they couldn't stop the conversations that came after that, with fans losing their minds as the poor quality footage teased Peter Parker's next MCU adventure - as he narrated a reminder of why he had to make everyone forget that he was the webslinger - while also offering potential hints towards the identity of Sadie Sink's mystery character.

Since that moment, fans have been pushing for an official trailer release - so much so that the pleas have reached director Destin Daniel Cretton, who promised that "it's coming". And that's just a sign of how united fans have been in making their voices heard. It's not surprising given that this is both Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe we are talking about here, but it is refreshing to see that the fans are still so committed to the project.
The trailer leaking online while Marvel Studios was preoccupied with Avengers: Doomsday is one of the great ironies in recent entertainment history. See, fans have been somewhat critical of Marvel's year-long push to promote the upcoming Avengers movie when Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives five months earlier - and it has had no official teasers as of yet. And considering that it will probably be the biggest movie of the summer, it might be a good idea to launch the trailer in the near-future.
Fans also weren't thrilled about the fact that Marvel was skipping the Super Bowl altogether, as that would have been a great opportunity to promote one of its upcoming movies - especially since they had been using one of those coveted ad spots to do so for the 16 years prior to that. While it was understandable that they opted against releasing another Avengers: Doomsday trailer so far out from the movie, fans argued that they could have collaborated with Sony on releasing a Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer there instead.
Cretton's promise aside, there is clearly the beginnings of a marketing push for the movie on the horizon. An official listing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art Of The Movie has revealed the first official synopsis for the film, confirming that it will take place four years after its predecessor (2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home) and that it will have a darker tone.
In the meantime, fans will continue to call for the film's first trailer. And you can rest assured that they will continue to be vocal while doing it.
