It's fair to say that there is a lot of excitement for Daredevil: Born Again season 2. It's Marvel Studios' second official foray into the world of the gritty and ground heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who first made a splash onto our screens a decade ago in the Netflix franchise of MCU shows. And judging by the first looks at what's to come, we can predict that it's going to receive a lot of praise.
It was unclear if the Netflix shows were canon to the MCU at the time. It was even less clear after they were cancelled. Now, with Marvel officially reviving Daredevil in the new sequel series, we know that it is. And despite season 1's teething issues, this is one of the most heavily-anticipated shows of the year. It is, after all, the moment we will get the true revival of the Netflix series we've been waiting for.
The Daredevil sequel we've all been waiting for
Although the first season of Daredevil: Born Again was generally well-received, it was far from perfect. The project had undergone some extreme changes throughout its production, resulting in a complete creative overhaul midway through. It started out as a separate entity intended to focus on an original MCU version of the story, with only Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprising their roles from the Netflix show. Everything else was to be reset, essentially decanonizing the Netflix franchise from the MCU.
The returning actors struggled with this. D'Onofrio has revealed on multiple occasions that he and Cox continually pushed for Born Again to recognize the previous incarnation of Daredevil, acknowledging that he didn't love the idea of the reboot recasting the role of Wilson Fisk's wife Vanessa. Meanwhile, Jon Bernthal - who plays The Punisher in the Netflix franchise - declined the chance to return as he wasn't happy with the direction of the show.

Eventually, Marvel stepped in and pressed the reset button. With that, Daredevil: Born Again became a direct sequel to the Netflix series and almost all of the actors involved in that one were asked to reprise their roles. That includes Ayelet Zurer, who stepped back into the role of Vanessa Fisk - much to the thrill of the fans.
But change couldn't come overnight. The studio had already produced multiple episodes that simply couldn't discard. Therfore, a compromise was reached: A new pilot was filmed to open the series, and a new direction was carved for the remainder of the season. The episode count was shortened from eighteen to nine, with the studio deciding to quietly renew it for a second season to utilize those remaining episodes. And some new material was filmed to tie the already-filmed footage together, linking it to the new vision.
Parts of season 1 were so very Daredevil and parts of it weren't. The death of Foggy Nelson didn't go down too well with audiences, nor did the new characters. The quick dispatch of Muse wasn't considered ideal and the divisive standalone bank episode generated a lot of discussion. And still, Daredevil thrived. The back three episodes of the season were nothing short of divine, matching the tone of the original series much more closely and setting the stage for a second season much more in line with the Netflix shows - much more in line with what Born Again should haave been from the start.

This is something that multiple members of the cast have confirmed too. Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page in both the original series and the revival, recently revealed that Born Again's second season will have much more similarities to the first, saying:
"If you're a fan of the vibe of the Netflix series, this definitely stays true to that and probably amplifies it, so it definitely felt like the same show with the same thematics and the same intentionality... but now stakes are higher."
She's not alone in saying, either, as Bullseye actor Wilson Bethel echoed her statements, saying:
"For those of us who, when the first season dropped, were like, 'Oh, cool. Okay, this is dope, but it's not quite getting me where I was with the old show', it will make the season 1 ofBorn Againfeel like the setup, and this is the payoff."
To say that this is what fans have been asking for would be a major understatement. Born Again's first season was admittedly a great season of television but the mismatch of tones prevented it from matching the perfection of the three seasons of the Netflix series. Season 2, however, as the first true full season of this new, restored creative vision stands a much better chance of doing that.
A stronger story and more Netflix returns
The moment that the first season of Daredevil: Born Again ended, I had a smile on my face. Although some considered it a little underwhelming, I knew that it was merely setting the stage for a superior second season. Everything we have learned about that second season in the year since simply reinforces all of that.
With the Kingpin, now the mayor of New York City, enacting Martial Law, the convicted felon and corrupt official has created a hopeless vacuum in the heart of the city that very much echoes his reign of terror in the first season of the Netflix series. This also sets the stage for an impossible odds-style of comeback for The Devil of Hell's Kitchen himself as he rallies a team of heroes to stand up to the corruption. And within that team will be some very, very welcome returnees.
The biggest selling point of Born Again season 2 is that Krysten Ritter is back and reprising her role of Jessica Jones. The other biggest character in the Netflix franchise, Jessica headlined her own series for three seasons and starred opposite Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage in The Defenders. It's only fitting that she return to help him wage war against the Kingpin.

The other two members of The Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, have been rumored for returns too - especially as stars Mike Colter and Finn Jones were spotted in New York City right around the time that filming on the Disney Plus series was taking place. And as the season draws nearer, more and more rumors claim that at least one of them will be making an appearance.
Someone who will be making an appearance, however, is Royce Johnson's Officer Brett Mahoney. Now a detective, Brett was one of Daredevil's closest allies in the original series. He was also a close friend of Foggy's, so he will undoubtedly have no problem taking the fight to the Kingpin once again, especially as it will ultimately help everyone get justice for Foggy.
We know that Elden Henson will reprise his role as Foggy in a limited capacity, with the trailer implying that it will be a flashback scene. However, the Netflix stars who did appear in the first season are expected to have an increased role this time around (due to the fact that there will be no creative reboot this time), with Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page set to play a far bigger role in season 2. Needless to say, that's an extremely welcome change to the revival's format.
All in all, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is extremely highly-anticipated. While there is plenty of excitement based around the fact that it will continue the storyline set forth in the first season, the overall consensus that it will be more of a direct sequel to the Netflix series than its own first season was is the best selling-point the show could ever have. We can't wait to see it come to life on our screens as Born Again finally gives Daredevil fans the sequel they have been waiting years for.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on March 24, 2026.
